An FYI. In January my system lost sound overnight presumedly during the course of a system auto-update. It was suggested to perform the following steps:
Try to run this script as root: rpm -e --nodeps kdemultimedia3-mixer ldconfig rcalsasound stop rm /etc/asound.state rcalsasound start alsactl store
Then try to configure sound again with YaST or alsaconf (but not with both at once).
After that (and configuring with alsaconf) sound was working again. This morning I found the sound was no longer working. It was fine last night. Overnight the system did it's weekly auto-update. I ran alsaconf as root and the sound was fine. But it still was not working as my normal user. I had to log out and back in again before sound would work for the user. -- Marshall Lake -- mlake@mlake.net -- http://mlake.net
