I think I tried to answer this one. Any way, it means that the 'configure' script tried to check the KDE libraries you have installed in your system. It does that by trying to compile a small program and linking it with the KDE libraries. It failed, thus the message. You may try a more verbose posting with the output of 'configure'. There may be many reasons why it failed: you don't have a compiler installed, you don't have the libraries installed, version conflicts, etc., etc. What you could do is verify that you have the needed packages. Unfortunately, there is no easy way of telling you what packages to install. Browse through the d (from development) series in the Suse CDs and install what you may think is missing: egcs, C++, ObjC, etc. An alternative is to load the "development configuration" from the installation menu in Yast. I think it loads every development package and lots of documentation. You need quite a bit of space in your disk. The chances of a missing package when building from source are reduced this way.
