Does anyone have experiences in running a Compaq Smart Array 3200 controller in a non-Compaq computer?
I successfully run a couple of SMART-2/DH arrays, but the 3200 poses
problems...
At startup, at controller POST, it takes what feels like forever, to initialize.. Then it displays the following:
1783-Slot 2 Array Controller Failure! [Command failure (cmd=11h, err=020h)]
I can't find ANY references to the '1783' error code, neither can I find anything about 'cmd=11h, err=020h' anywhere!
Help is gratefully accepted, although this isn't really on-topic for
some this
list, my intention is to run SuSE 9.2 off this controller..
Anders.
Hate to break it to you but HP RAID controllers are using the system firmware more and more I would NOT recommend using HP RAID controllers outside HP machines.
I know that Dave, But the fact is that the 3200 controller was one of the last that did NOT depend on the rest of the system (in fact, the Compaq System Controller board). I think, but am not sure, that also the 43xx series are usable, but when you step up to later models, you're smoked when it comes to non-Cpq/HP servers.
Later, Anders.
OKay well I had no way of knowing you knew that. Being you already know the hard part a google serch with the error message turned up this http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/bizsupport/questionanswer.do?threa... and http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/bizsupport/questionanswer.do?threa... as it is a pre-OS boot issue even though the thread is about windows it applies to Linux as well. -- David Blomberg dblomber@davelinux.com AIS, APS, ASE, CCNA, Linux+, LCA, LCP, LPI I, MCP, MCSA, MCSE, RHCE, Server+
