Hey guys,
Suse 9.0 is the first version of Suse that I've actually ever tried, and so far I've been very impressed. I've tried almost all the other distros, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to stay with suse for a while....
I installed 9.0 onto my Dell Inspiron 8200 which is a 2.2Ghz Mobile. The installation went well. After I start up there are 2 main things that I am having problems with: 1 - The hard drive is extraordinarly slow. The hard drive light barely flickers when I'm writing/reading to the hdd. This means some apps like Mozilla take a VERY long time to load up. 2 - In the kde control centre, I have set the display to be turned off after 30 minutes. The only way I seem to be able to bring it back is to Alt-F1 to go to the text console, and then Alt-F7 to go back to X.
I have this line appear in the logs : spurious 8259A interrupt: IRQ7.

PS : I noticed that there was a mailing list dedicated to laptop issues, but it was in German. Is there one in English ?
Try enabling DMA for the drive in question. Go to Yast2-> Hardware -> IDE DMA Mode. Select your drive and set DMA to on.
Its already set.

While the PC is booting, press the "F2" key and keep a lookout for a message indicating that DMA access is actually turned on. If such a message does not show up, try using the "hdparam" (I don't remember the exact syntax or spelling of this command) to set the DMA mode. See "man hdparam" for help with this command. LW999
