I was using a pioneer dvd115 drive and it did not read the SuSE DVD. I recently switched to a Sony drive and all is now OK. I tried the firmware upgrade on the pioneer drive with no success. I suspect SuSE DVD's are marginal with respect to readability much like CDRW's were not always readable by early cdrom drives due to thier low reflectivity. Hopefully SuSE have learnt the lesson and will buy better quality DVD's next time. On Wednesday 10 July 2002 23:22, Kevin McLauchlan wrote:
Good day, all.
Can anybody confirm (or guess authoritatively):
When SuSE releases 8.1, will I be able to install via my Pioneer DVD? (It didn't work for 8.0, and I reverted to CD installation.)
If so, then it's worthwhile for me to purchase another boxed set. But if I'm going to be stuck using the seven CDs once again, I might as well just borrow from somebody and not pay again until 9.x... :-)
I would most likely be doing a "new" install, and not an upgrade, so any tweaks that I have updated into 8.0 will not be available.
Thanks,
