Hello everyone!
I'm having a problem with sound in SuSE 8.0 -- I can't get more than one sound output at once. For example, I can't play mp3s on xmms and watch an AVI clip using xine. System (KDE) notifications and other sound effects also doesn't work when another resource is using the sound card. Why is this? I know for a fact that my sound "card" (an onboard CMI8738 chip) can output multiple sounds at once because I used it on Windows...not only that, but it worked perfectly fine when I used both Mandrake and RedHat. So why can't I get it to work in SuSE? I've tried reading up on the problem, but to no avail. I've also updated to the latest ALSA drivers. Oh, and I also get the following error in xconsole:
Jun 18 02:42:28 linux modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module sound-slot-1 Jun 18 02:42:36 linux modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module sound-service-1-0 Jun 18 02:44:13 linux modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module sound-slot-1 Jun 18 02:44:13 linux modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module sound-service-1-3 Jun 18 02:44:13 linux modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module sound-slot-2 Jun 18 02:44:13 linux modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module sound-service-2-3 Jun 18 02:44:13 linux modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module sound-slot-3 Jun 18 02:44:13 linux modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module sound-service-3-3
Could this be the problem? If so, how do I solve it?
This cant be the problem imho. These errors come out as it is searching some module for the second, third and fourth sound card. Have you tried to set up it again via yast2? Praise
