Hi, All -
Attempted to do some maintenance on a system for which i have forgotten the root/su password. Any ideas on how to hack into it, and or to get the password? Thx...
Put in your boot/floppy and start the rescue system. mount your root partiton on /mnt "cd /mnt/etc" and "vi shadow" delete everything on the root line between the first 2 colons, that was your old password. "sync" reboot You will be able to enter a new password when you reboot. If you are not prompted for one, log in as root, with no password, and do "passwd". -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq
