APM problems with 8.0 on IBM ThinkPad 600X

I've had a standard 8.0 install on an IBM TP 600E for some time without any problems. I just did a fresh 8.0 install on a 600X and now suspend/resume doesn't work if I have the Xircom NIC installed and I don't use the mouse/keyboard for a while. Usually the screen is restored, but the system is hung. I'm fairly sure it's some parameter to apmd I need to provide, but I can't find any useful hits with Google or SDB at www.suse.com. Can anyone give me a good place to look? Thanks. Jim
