Hey Guys;
The Suse distribution is dirt cheap considering what you get for your money now days. For those of you operating under financial constraints, you can always download the source code, write the list to find out what patches and links Suse used to configure those programs and avoid the expense of an upgrade.
I used to do that with slackware and redhat -- but with 6 CD's worth, a modem connection does not really hack it anymore (I would still be downloading when they released their next version :-)
Suse, Red Hat, Caldera, etc;, are just free software that someone has taken the time and effort to configure, write scripts and setup in order for you. Shouldn't they be paid for their work? Lighten up!
I am happy with the price of the upgrade version (hope it makes it to stores in the US), but I think a lot of us see the move to a professional version as a very unwise business move if it is to sit on the OS shelf costing >$100 with all the other choices. In the US the quality of SuSE is not well known, so it is not really likely to sell well at that price over here, and having it disappear from store shelves would be a very bad thing for those of us without credit cards. (I make a point of not praising a distribution in "mixed" company, but 6 CD's of expertly patched and configured software for $19.99 at CompUSA was a remarkably good bargain -- and I am Scot enough to grouse when my getting future such bargains is being threatened :-) [snip] -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq
