hi all,
i'm using suse6.4,kernel 2.2.14,(i686-whatever that means) & plan to install kernel 2.2.16 coz of security reasons.
anyway, when i go to one of the mirror sides, there are a few files/packages there: MD5SUMS k_delflt.rpm k_eide.rpm k_i386.rpm k_laptop.rpm k_smp.rpm lx_suse.rpm patch_collection.tar.gz
my ques are: 1. which kernel do i need? 2. where should i put them after i've downloaded them? in /usr/src? at the moment there'r 3 directories there-linux,linux-2.2.14 & packages. 3.so after putting all these files there i can start to 'unzip' them & perform the configuration, right?
thank u so much for any hints/suggestions/solutions u've given.
cheers tk
All depends on your machine. Most people use k_eide.rpm Or roll your own kernel -- install lx_suse.rpm (with rpm or yast) -- it will install itself into /usr/src/linux-$version, symlinked to /usr/src/linux. -- Never trust a man in a suit -- cll -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq
