the "disk" group is one for all disk devices in the system, including hard disks. Adding user to disk group, user gives himself unlimited access to anything that is disk.
You are right. Better to change the group of all dvd and cdrom devices to the cdrom group and add allowed users to it. In fact, IMHO, I think all /dev/srx devices should default to the cdrom group.
