Is there a way to pause the bootup messages so that I can look at them more closely? I know I can look in boot.log
that should be boot.msg
and see many of them, but what shows up there is not the same as what shows up on the screen during bootup.
Oh? I don't see anything missing. What isn't there?
Actually, I guess that they're all there, but accompanied by a lot of other stuff that could be useful but makes the log much harder to scan. I'd really like to see just what I saw on the screen.
In any case, hitting the "Scroll Lock" key will pause the screen scroll
I'll try that on the next boot. James Knott mentioned the dmesg program, but that omits a lot of stuff --like the hundreds of repetitions of : <3>ide-scsi: hde: unsupported command in request queue (0) <4>end_request: I/O error, dev 21:3d (hde), sector 0 <3>ide-scsi: hde: unsupported command in request queue (0) <4>end_request: I/O error, dev 21:3d (hde), sector 1 that continue to puzzle me. Aside from making the boot take longer, I haven't seen any ill effects from them. Paul
