By the way it was pretty easy to set up and use. I noticed that if I ran yast package manager (yast1) to check the install of something I had compiled and run checkinstall on, yast wouldn't know about it, I just re-installed it w/ yast so that my 7.2 system would know what was there.
YaST looks at more than the RPM database when displaying the list of packages. There is some mysterious configuration file somewhere or maybe just the ARCHIVES.gz for that version of SuSE. However, if you do "rpm -qa | grep <pkg>", you'll find your checkinstall packages in the RPM database and you can remove them cleanly with "rpm -e <pkg>".
