Hello I just picked up an Epson Stylus Color 740 to replace my ancient Canon BJ-200. Got everything installed and running OK in win98, but it doesn't seem to want to recognize anthing in Linux. I downloaded a Ghostscript configuration file (stc740p.upp) and installed it using the apsfilter SETUP program. (It came with redhat printer db files, but they aren't of any use to me.) I then hand edited the printcap file to assign lp, lp-mono, etc. I printed a simple text file and --- nothing. The job showed in the queue for a few seconds and then disappeared. Never saw any reaction that indicated the printer ever got any data. The printer is connected through the parallel port /dev/lp0 The bootup message shows that lp0 is using parport, and seems to detect the printer on the parallel port - at least it prints a message properly identifying the printer. To see if the port was blocked, I tried catting a small test file directly to /dev/lp0 and ....nothing. I reconnected the old Canon printer and tried again. The file went through OK, so the port is up and alive. Anybody have any ideas?
