Anyone out there using/tried to use XMX on SuSE?
Specifically: SuSE-7.2 running KDE, but I'm interested
in comments for any version/window manager.
If you don't know XMX, see
http://www.cs.brown.edu/software/xmx
XMX allows several different machines to share the same
X session, by opening X in a "virtual root window" within
an already running X session, and broadcasting this to a
designated list of other machines on the network. Users
on these other machines can be given equal rights of input,
and the actions of any such user (KB input, mouse motion,
mouse-clicks, etc.) are mirrored across all machines.
Very useful in a teaching environment, or (my main use)
when two or more users are cooperating in running software,
editing documents, etc. (it's effectively the same as taking
turns with other users on the chair in front of the main computer,
but network-transparent).
I used to use the old version of XMX with success on
SuSE-5.1, though it was tricky to get the startup right.
I can't get the latest one (1.2pl7) to startup properly at all.
All comments welcome!
With thanks, and best wishes to all,
Ted.
