OK, here is where I'm at.
1) manual ftp can download files from ftp server (XP Pro workstation running
Blackmoon FTP Server v2.2). This works as either anonymous or the user
'user' (defined on the FTP server).
2) I downloaded the boot disks off suse for 7.3. They are different than
what is on the boxed version of 7.3.
3) I noticed in the docs that CD2 has 1.44MB images (versus 2MB for CD1),
and tried to install from CD2.
The error message is a little more promising. The install package complains
'bad gzip magic numbers' and the ftp server sez Thu, 11 Jul 2002
(17:05:47) - User user logged in
Thu, 11 Jul 2002 (17:05:47) - (138.20.20.23) is downloading
"D:\suse\images\boot"
Thu, 11 Jul 2002 (17:05:47) - (138.20.20.23) finished downloading
"D:\suse\images\boot"
Thu, 11 Jul 2002 (17:05:47) - Closing connection for 138.20.20.23 (None).
4) Where are the images the install program is looking for. The default
directory suse/images/root does not exist. On CD1 it is suse/images/boot
and on CD2 suse/images/boot is a file not a directory.
Thanks for your continuing help and insight.

Logging in as anonymous has the result as with a defined user. I also tried unsharing the cd-rom resource, but the error is the same. What is the ftp script attempting to do when I get the 450 error? Steve ----- Original Message ----- From:
I'd try setting up your FTP server with anonymous login enabled.
Are there parameters in the DEBUG mode I should be specifying? Any FTP
Install
documentation?
Working from vague memory here, since I haven't actually done an ftp install (I always use nfs), but I seem to remember when 8.0 appeared on ftp.suse.com there was an announcement that there was a bug in the installer in the boxed version, and that if you wanted to do an ftp install you had to use the updated boot disks from ftp.suse.com.
Is that what you're using now? If not I suggest you try it.
