I have a new Toshiba notebook with SuSE working very well for the most part. But I can't seem to get the power meter in kde to work right, or more generally the apmd system. apm reports "AC on-line, no system battery" regardless of whether the computer is plugged in or not. There is never any indication of state of charge, or even the existence of a battery. I've tried the various combinations of apm and acpi in the kernel startup with no success.
quick hint, the worked-for-me type: get a new (newer) kernel, select everything under ACPI support (except the debugging part), and do not select APM support. quick hint #2: go to http://www.linux-laptop.net/ , there is a lot of useful info there. http://pgp.mit.edu:11371/pks/lookup?op=get&search=0xAD674062 -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.1 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE98PJjlDG6Z61nQGIRAkIfAJ46LL4gXuD4xHIUl0EGoDBPNlqDlwCgmzKD VuHlJZYNpVcJLnNgxaluDtI= =CFeZ -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
