Installing SuSE 8.0 (and 7.3, so I have no reason to believe that 8.1 will be different) from Hard Disk is how I do all my workstations - from the hard drive on the server.
That's the strange thing about it. Installing it from an nfs mounted partition it works, but from a local mounted partition it won't!
That's what I heard; I only tried once and I failed as well. I think it has to be on different hard disk. Tell you what, try the following upon install from a local harddisk, and it comes up with the medium busy: Change to a new console, and "umount /dev/hdx1" Where /dev/hdx1 is the partition with the install on it :o)
Works for me - you see SuSE put the partition in the fstab under /data2 and automagically mounted it upon boot, which caused issues when it tried to mount it under /var/adm/mount [or wherever] too :o) Hope this helps, not been following the thread so please excuse me if I have suggested something that has already been said!
