ACPI is a newer emerging standard, APM is what it is replacing. It just means the BIOS and motherboard do not implement ACPI, but APM. You should use APM in your case, as that is dictated by your hardware.

With most desktop BIOS setup power saving screen, there are settings for this, to 'monitor' the HD for activity or not, but I have never seen a laptop BIOS have that kind of detail. You could check your BIOS setup, under power saving settings, but I doubt there is anything you can do, except check on a possible BIOS update and update your BIOS. It sounds like a BIOS firmware bug, something on Fujitsu can fix.
