I'm not extreme: main:~ # du -sh /usr 6.7G /usr main:~ # du -shx /usr 3.8G /usr So what is the 3G "gap"? I have /usr/share a s sperate FS. Back when the Bell Unix Systems Group came up with idea that workstations could be 'lighter' in their disk requirements (and hence cheaper -- keep the beancounters happy) by having things like documentation, fonts and more on a shared repository on a server and mounted via NFS. Years previously SUN had done a lot of experimentation with 'dumb workstations' even to the point of having SWAP NFS mounted. That proved not to be a good idea :-) Sharing man pages, fonts and other things you'll find on /usr/share does make sense. You don't need them for boot. There are other thing under /usr that you don't need for boot (X11, games ...) but there's no point in being obsessional about the small stuff. -- A: Yes. > Q: Are you sure? >> A: Because it reverses the logical flow of conversation. >>> Q: Why is top posting frowned upon? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
