I think Glenn is right to suggest you work your way through the Java Tutorial from Sun. It seems that you're missing some basic background material about the language and the process of programming in it. Beyond Sun's tutorial and reference materials, there's a mouintain of Java information on the Internet, much of it suitable for beginners, so I'd just start with the Tutorial and then give you "Hello World" program a shot. From there you should be on your way to more interesting programming projects. Lastly, in the future the SuSE-Programming-E list is the most appropriate list to ask questions about programming under SuSE Linux. Good luck.
