I have got two opensuse 10.3 and 11.1 (x86) servers giving this error. The solution so far has been to rebuild the entire server. And after four times doing this with lots of downtime and headache, I am a little tired. These servers do DNS/ web/ and db and no one makes any system related changes on them. All of a sudden I see that I have lost ssh connection, I then try to log in from the physical location but I can't - I get error: "Error in service module". Upon reboot I can see lots of things come up with "error/ failed" - also noticed /var file system cannot be found type error. Every time I try to log in I get error: "Error in service module" I then boot off a Knoppix Live DVD but sometimes can't mount the file systems on the disk. Sometimes when I can access the disks, I run fsck on them but no error is either reported or fixed. I tried Suse repair system manager - it identifies some error in the file system and boot loader and fixes it - this behavior repeats every time I run it to no avail. The only thing both the servers have in common: they download RPMs from repositories from the Internet; namely from: download.opensuse.org and the packman repository: Index of /pub/packman/suse/10.3 and every time I go to install software in the yast software management section, I can see "Downloading......patch..." not sure what it downloads and whether it installs something and whether it has something to do with this error. Is there a reason why I get this error? Or is there a bug in the kernel or something else? I have already run memtest and couldn't find any error.
