Usually, the (actual) media is mounted as /media/myusbdrive or something, so why would zip write to /media?
If the gui program you use understands that you are requesting to compress the whole /media/myusbdrive it will try to do so to the parent dir, which is, of course, /media, and it will fail. mc would do that, too. - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
