Hi all,
I have a SuSE 8.1 computer running Raid-1 on 2 HDs (200GB each). Currently everything is working fine. In the extreme case when one of the 2 drives ceases to work, how will I be able to identify it? I mean will 'cat /proc/mdstat' shoot out something or will I see this from somewhere else?
Has anyone seen this happen before?? As you can understand I am curious what the message will be in this case.
Thank you all, Chris
In mdstat, active drives are represented by [UU], meaning both drives are active. If a drive fails, you would see [U_] instead. The underline represents the failed drive. I suppose a script could be used and placed in cron. --------------------------------------------------------- #!/bin/bash errors=`/bin/cat /proc/mdstat | grep blocks | grep -c _` if [ ! $errors = 0 ] ; then echo You have $errors errors shown in mdstat fi --------------------------------------------------------- should give the number of errors ... I think. I just check mine every morning and have never tried the above script. Don't forget to add grub to the mbr of your second drive and to add another entry in menu.lst to boot from that drive as well. -- Louis D. Richards LDR Interactive Technologies
