I have a Logitech Quickcam 400 Pro and SuSE 10.0 and cannot get it to work on an out of the box install. I bought this camera for a teleoperated robotics project and bought it because my research indicated it would work. Using Xawtv or KDETV I get a gray screen. The Kernel finds the camera and identifies it correctly when I plug it in but I only get the gray screen. I will try taking a look at the PWC module tonight. Any hints or instructions on compiling or installing it? -----Original Message----- From: Bryan S. If yes what are the recommended webcam for Linux/SuSE...
Logitech 3000 Pro and 4000 Pro work great with the pwc module. I have been using a Logitech 3000 Pro webcam with my Linux system for quite a while. Until recently I was running SuSE 9.2. I am now running Mepis 3.3.1. With the 2.6 kernel the pwc module is now maintained at http://www.saillard.org/linux/pwc/ Other pwc compatible cams are listed on http://www.lavrsen.dk/twiki/bin/view/PWC/WorkingWebcamsWithPWC Probably the biggest change is there is no longer a separate pwcx module. The pwc.ko module is capable of the large picture by itself. In SuSE 9.2 my module was located at /lib/modules/2.6.8-24.16-default/kernel/drivers/usb/media/pwc.ko In Mepis 3.3.1 my module is located at /lib/modules/2.6.10/misc/pwc.ko For viewing the cam picture I like camstream, but you can also use xawtv. Camstream can also upload your cam shots. I like to use webcam for uploading the cam shots (sometimes it's packaged with xawtv, but I think lately SuSE has it in "V4L extras" or similarly named rpm).
