thank you in advance Mat
It is very simple, even without compiling your own software. The first step is to initiate an Internet connection, if you don't have a permanent one.
Go into YaST, select Adjustments of Installation, Select Installation Medium. Pick FTP Site from the list, and enter into the dialog:
server: ftp.gwdg.de directory: /pub/linux/suse/6.3/i386.de/ (annonymous access)
Press F10 to save the settings, and go get a cup of $FAVORITE_BEVERAGE. This will take a minute or two over a cable/adsl connection, and some number of minutes over a dialup. It is downloading several files, some of which are in excess of 2mb.
After this stage has been completed, continue back to the main YaST menu and select Choose/Install Packages, Change/Create Configuration. In series [sec], you will find ssh, openssl, and several other tools that you may find useful that aren't available on the US/International CD-ROMs. If you select ssh by itself, YaST is smart enough to explain to you that it has unmet dependencies, and will offer to resolve those dependencies for you.
Returning to the Choose/Install Packages menu, go ahead and Start Installation. Assuming that $FAVORITE_BEVERAGE != alcoholic, go get another one. If, however $FAVORITE_BEVERAGE == alcoholic, pace yourself; drink slowly, so as to avoid making silly mistakes when it comes time to make the stuff work ;).
When this is complete, SSH (by default) is enabled. All you'd need to do is change runlevels back and forth (`init 1 ; init 2') or reboot, and SSH will be up and running on your system. Good luck! ;)
I completely ignored your Apache issue. I apologize. While you're attached to ftp.gwdg.de as your installation meduim, don't forget to go into [n] and select mod_ssl, which is the set of Apache modules to allow SSL communication. The rest of the informataion you need to set up Apache *for* SSL is already in /etc/httpd/httpd.conf, simply un-commment as necessary. -- -=|JP|=- Jon Pennington | Atipa Linux Solutions jpennington@atipa.com | http://www.atipa.com Kansas City, MO, USA | 816-241-2641 x121 -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
