Hi, I installed suse 9.1 pro. on a NetServer LC3 with raid5, the installation was successful, but when I finished packages update, including kernel, I reboot the machine and send me a kernel panic.
The system not found the devices, in this case /dev/sda2, the next messages is showing:
Loading kernel /fs/reiserfs/reiserfs.ko Waiting for device /dev/sda2 to appear: ... not found device nodes: console fb0 fd0 loop0 loop1 ...(bla bla bla) ram7 ram8 ... (bla bla bla) zero warning:cannot open /etc/mtab: No such file or directory VFS: Cannot open root device "sda2" or unknown-block(0,0) Please append a correct "root=" boot option Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)
Can I recover the system? or Do I need to reinstall all the packages again?
There have been a few people with similar problems before, the current thinking is that the mkinitrd package has a bug in it. Try downgrading mkinitrd to the version on the CDs and rebuilding the initrd
