It appears that I may have solved this problem. I run a memory check and appear to have a problem with one segment so I have removed that memory module from the PC. Installation is proceeding smoothly. John
I am having a problem installing from CD, I do not have a DVD drive available to try that instead.
I am very new to Linux and have been experimenting with Suse 7.3 and seemed to be getting along (with a lot to learn). I just received V8 Professional and decided to do a clean install on my system beside the NT4 partition, so I deleted V7.3.
The V8 install process proceeds OK through the selection of installation settings, however once it starts the installation it gets as far as loading "groff" and returns an error!
If I continue, the next few packages return an error until the system presents a blank screen and crashes. This has progressed to about 3% of CD1.
I have tried safe settings as well and have the same error each time.
Any suggestions very welcome.
I am considering trying a new installation of V7.3 (basic settings, and then attempting to upgrade that, although I am wondering about the possibility of my first CD being faulty (?) I haven't read of anyone having this problem.
