More news about my missing sound capabilities.
In /var/log/messages I'm getting
Apr 15 17:02:40 huckleberry kernel: ALSA via82xx.c:699: invalid via82xx_cur_ptr, using last valid pointer
Can anyone tell me what this means?
I would guess, based on information I see in the error that I am not absolutely certain about, that you are using AMD with a VIA chip set which is not well, or at all, supported by the default kernels. Did your install auto-detect Athlon and install the correct kernel? I ended up getting the Mantel built k_athlon kernel to get my VIA chip set to work correctly.
