This is very strange. On wednesday using NFS I installed SuSE 7.0 from the DVD on my laptop to my desktop. It worked fine. Yesterday I played around with NFS mounting partitions from my laptop to my desktop and vice versa. All worked fine. Today I tried to do the same thing and it didn't work. My first clue was when I fired up YAST on my desktop it didn't find the DVD on my laptop. When I tried an nfs mount it failed with the message RPC timed out. After more investigation I found that the file to start RPC /sbin/init.d/rpc was suddenly missing (I'm sure I saw it the day before). I uninstalled and then re-installed portmap from series n. Even did a reboot. On rebooting the system claimed that the RPC was started. Still couldn't connect from the other computer (RPC Timed Out again). Still no file /sbin/init.d/rpc Anyone have an idea what has gone wrong and what do I have to do to put it right? TIA, Jethro
