I can read my own BD with VLC, but have no commercial one to try

I don't have a "commercial" Bd either.
So, which vlc are you using- the one from openSUSE or one which you downloaded directly from Videolan and installed (possibly using the 1-clik install)?
I am using the one from oS and it is version 2.1.2 Rincewind (whatever 'Rincewind' is) in 13.1 (I haven't looked at what I have in 12.3 but I do know that that one came from Videolan).
The VLC from openSUSE? or Packman?
This is where I am confused, bemused, and anything else which may rhyme with the preceding 2 words. VLC shows up here as coming from any one of 3 sources: packman, videolan, "Main Repository (OSS)....vendor openSUSE". The one I was looking at when I wrote the post was openSUSE but since then I have done an update and now it is showing packman. So the bottom line is: which one should I be using- the one directly from videolan or from packman? I do know that I had a dependency conflict when I did the updates earlier and now I don't remember which option I selected to get rid of the dependency problem. (These dependency problems are becoming a pain in the ass! Prior to 13.1 there were hardly any of these problems.)
Have you added the vlc-codecs? Do you need libdvdcss?
I've got the lot! :-) . But obviously not quite the lot or at least one from the wrong source.
Rincewind is a character (a failed student at the Unseen University) from the Discworld series.
Figures - this vlc is also a failure....... BC PS I haven't checked (I just remembered about it :-( ) but k3b did not want to make a copy of an audio CD - kept coming up with an error that it didn't recognise the disc, or something.
