I thought I'd try sticking the 3.1.94 kde betas on a little used machine, but konqueror crashes with sigabrt whenever it's started as a web browser - it starts ok in file viewing mode, and runs fine until invited to look at a web page, when it crashes instantly. It doesn't seem to matter what web page. I didn't remove kdebase3-suse before doing the upgrade, which I forced when the presence of kdebase3-suse was the sole remaining objection from rpm. Not good practice, I know, but since I am probably going to reinstall the machine I didn't care much. However, I'd like to know whether anyone else is having konq. crashes and if so how you set up the 3.2 betas.
Best Fergus
I fixed the crashing konq by removing kdebase3-suse (this does away with the SuSE specifics, but it doesn't take long to set things up in a pleasing way), and Richard kindly let me know a better method to upgrade: http://linux01.gwdg.de/apt4rpm/kde31to32.html So 3.2 beta is now on the machine concerned, and looks nice, with a good konq - but after about 3 hours running it started thrashing, with X and kdeinit competing to fill up the cpu time. I was able to get a normal closedown from a console, but based solely on my experience I wouldn't hurry to put that beta on a production machine. YMMV and maybe my slack approach to the update didn't help. Cheers Fergus
