Sendmail has been the "de-facto" if you like for years.
Originally a bsd product, it remains still to haunt us
all... :-)
And this was the end of security everywhere internet! Recently sendmail
last new fresh version had a very big
hole... is this a good choice?
Seriously though the pro's of using Sendmail is that it is
highly configureable. It allows many features to be
implemented.
You don't know qmail... Since it's completely modular, it lets you
everything you like. Sendmail is restricted to
its own code... qmail doesn't. And best of all: it include its own pop3
server; sendmail doesn't. Sendmail "swallows"
all ip addresses; qmail does not. Last version of qmail is 1.0.3, from
1988.............................. no need of change!
But, only if you are good at using the language M4, thus
this is a con of using Sendmail.
Right! A MTA usable by everybody!!! Perfect!

Small, fast, reliable, often a second good choice to
Sendmail.
No, no, no. A true alternative to sendmail, losing more and more adepts
every time.
> What about postfix?
heard of it...never used it.
If someone does not like sendmail or qmail, postfix is the real choice!
Very very very at the front of sendmail.

Consider seriously installing qmail. You will be happy ever after!
I would recommend qmail, if I were you...it is so much more
easier to configure than Sendmail.
Yes. New programming technologies is a demostration of genious. There's
no need of many KBytes of written code:
qmail is 862 KBytes (even after compilation process). Sendmail is (SuSE
7.3 binary rpm package) 2 MB.... Must I
follow?
HTH,
Alejandro Ortega.
Very bored and tired of sendmail.
