I think that one of the main reasons that linux is safer is simpley that so far it has not received as much attention as windoze.
Ah, then so that purple smudge around your lips is because you drank the coolaid!!! That is the line the Microsoft FUD boys have been pushing for years. It wasn't true then, and its not true now. Linux is safer due to a lot of reasons, not the least of which is that drive by installs don't work, and even if you download an executable unknowingly it still won't run until YOU set permissions to make it executable. If you know what that means (setting the permissions) you are immediately suspicious of any unexpected request to do so.
