The machine is P4 3.0GHz,
Do you have the exact model ?? If the kernel is for 64bits you would have a kernel panic, not a simple X crash. maybe your processor is a 64bit one.
So, I tried running sax2 from init 3 and it will not load. Tried yast and that's when I realised I had no yast2-ncurses at all. I then checked and noticed it had given me the smp kernel??? I don't have multi-processor capability.
But you have HT is the same kernel, the HT in Intel processor work like a multicore
On 2nd try, in package selection, I manually looked at yast2-ncurses. It was then I realised that ALL the software was being selected for the x86_64 option and not the i586 option?!
So what, this thing thinks I have a multi-processor 64 bit system?! Well I don't!
Again i think you have a 64bits processor with HT, it could be a 64bits bug, try reinstall with a 32bits vertion but with smp support. -- Marcel Mourguiart
