I did assign an address in the yast setup screen. However, it doesn't appear in the ifconfig listing when plugging in the zaurus. I also tried manually setting an ip address, but it still doesn't work.

A quick update. I've found that if I manually assign an ip address in the 192.168.129.* sequence used by the zaurus, that I can ping between the zaurus and desktop, and qtopia seems to notice the zaurus and tries to connect, but still doesn't connect. Thanks again for the help,
Bernie Try typing in the following right after you connect your cradle. Also make sure you have the 1.6beta version of the qtopiadesktop. At least a few of the older versions did not work via USB reliably. I would also suggest you get the current ROM for your Zaurus if you don't have it.
ifconfig usb0 192.168.129.200 netmask 255.255.255.255 up route add -host 192.168.129.201 usb0
Now try to ping and see if you can sync. You can also try to add this set of steps: On your computer (REPLACE MY_IP with your internet IP, and ethX with the interface for your internet side on your desktop): ifconfig usb0 192.168.129.200 netmask 255.255.255.255 up route add -host 192.168.129.201 usb0 iptables -t nat -F iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -j SNAT -o ethX --to MY_IP echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward
On the Zaurus: route add -host 192.168.129.200 usbd0 route delete -net 192.168.129.0/24 usbd0 route add default gw 192.168.129.200
edit /etc/resolv.conf to include the same nameservers as on your desktop system.
After doing this I was able to view web pages and such from the cradle. Totally useless in my opinion, but a neat thing to see. I prefer doing this with my wireless card.
Thanks for the suggestions. I found an error in one of the configuration files and I now have the usb network coming up with the the correct ip address automatically. I can ping between zaurus and laptop, and can ftp from zaurus to laptop over the usb interface. But I still can't sync. When I start qtopiadesktop (v1.6), it initially says 'trying to connect to PDA' for a few seconds. This message then goes away, but it does not connect (the sync menu buttons are greyed out and the little connection icon remains a disconnected red.) I haven't tried the internet connnection. I'ld rather browse on a larger screen. The frustating thing is that I used to be able to sync fine using a network card in the zaurus, but the later versions of the rom (I do have the most recent one) prevent this. Thanks again for the help, Bernie
