Hi all,
Can anyone tell me how release "IP" in linux. In the DOS shell ( Windows_2000) , I do ">ipconfig/release". I don't know how it's done on Linux. I am using the high speed cable connection, and I have a desktop running SuSe7.3, and Notebook with WindowsXP. I have to release IP everytime when I wanna use interenet.
Thanks
You could try this app called ipconf.... http://downloads.sympatico.ca/linux/internet/preview/8974.shtml Or, simplify things a bit and set up a router between your cable modem and your desktop and laptop. I use Smoothwall for this - there are other similar apps available, I just prefer Smoothwall for its simplicity. The Smoothwall machine (just and old computer, no monitor attached) sits on the floor behind my desk and provides local DHCP and firewall services. It remains bound to the IP my cable modem ISP gives me. All my home machines connect through a small inexpensive hub. I can connect and disconnect as many computers (on any OS) as my hub has ports without having to worry about releasing and renewing IP leases all the time. C.
