I told you so.
However, what you have to do is dump your idea that you should use

With imap, the remote trash can at gmail is shown as a folder on your mail client (thunderbird), and you can see it, erase the contents, whatever, without using the webmail client.
Carlos,
This is what is says in gmail's settings.
=== When a message is marked as deleted and expunged from the last visible IMAP folder: Archive the message (default) Move the message to the Trash Immediately delete the message forever ===
I have the default set and I'm using K-9 on my Android phone, does that mean all the emails I've been deleting via the phone are just being archived?
I hope not.

Yes that is exactly what it means, as you would be able to determine by logging into your account with a web browser. Archived means the mail is in your ALL MAIL folder after delete. Carlos doesn't understand that this is something totally under the users control. And you can have it deleted permanently whether you are using pop or iMap. You just have to make the settings on that page. -- Sent from my Android phone with K-9 Mail.
