I have a feeling you're on a hiding to nothing. Clearly, whatever the installation tried to do, it ended up running away, and completely filling the memory. The VM subsystem then did it's trick of stopping stuff running to try to release a bit more. It didn't work. If you increase your swap space then all that will happen is that it'll take a bit longer for the runaway process to fill memory. The end result will be the same. You need to have a good look at the installation scripts to try to work out what it's doing. Assuming that all looks OK, you need to do an strace on the binary to see what that's doing. It should be relatively straightforward to track it down. Linux is Linux, and if it works on RHL or Corel Linux, it'll probably work on SuSE too. When you've tracked down where it's going wrong, you either tweak your SuSE setup to make it fit, or you email Corel and get them to fix it. If Corel say "get Corel Linux" you post their reply to this list and we all make as much fuss as we can. This is the price is closed source code. In the meantime, let's not make too many judgements. If you run out of knowledge, wait for the guys at SuSE to work out what the problem is and suggest an action. Only when the cause of the fault is known should people start yelling at Corel or sending the software back.
Well, upon a post-mortum of Avi's method to install wpo2000 I found in the log files that the reason the Corel graphic installer took two hours and then crashed KDE was: kernel VM: kill httpd, nscd, rpm, rpm, sendmail and kfm I ran out of memory. The corel requirements list says a P166 and 32M of memory. I have a P166 with 64M of memory and an 82M swap space and I still couldn't install.
I do believe that IF I had more memory that Corel says I needed, or maybe a bigger swap space, that Avi's method would work. And it is a relatively easy method, except for newbies. I am going to increase my swap space this evening to about 128M and see if Destry rides again. Meanwhile, to you Avi: Thanks... and, as I genuflec toward your location (?) I repeat three times" "I am not worthy" ;-) JLK
