-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Mads asked for the error message, and here's a recap. I've been trying to compile kernel 2.4.5 from the sources d/l-ed from kernel.org to no avail. I've been told I've got corrupted/missing libraries, bad ram, ya name it. I've tested ram using memtest available from the boot menu. Test ran for over 8 hours with no errors reported. Yet I'm still getting errors like the one below. I've re-installed the gcc rpm from the installation cd's and checked dependencies. I've compiled a few utils from sources sucessfully (ddup, Eggdrop, etc) with no problems. I'v even redownloaded the sources from kernel.org thinking perhaps I had a corrupted archive. Frankly I'm at a loss. Has ANYONE managed to compile 2.4.5 on the gcc package from 7.1? Here's what I'm doing: 1. extract files to /usr/src/linux-2.4.5 directory 2. make mrproper 3. make menuconfig 4. make dep 5. make bzImage At this point I get the following error: ======================================================= gcc: Internal compiler error: program cc1 got fatal signal 11 make[3]: *** [ide-scsi.o] Error 1 make[3]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.4.5/drivers/scsi' make[2]: *** [first_rule] Error 2 make[2]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.4.5/drivers/scsi' make[1]: *** [_subdir_scsi] Error 2 make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.4.5/drivers' make: *** [_dir_drivers] Error 2 harold@jezebelle:/usr/src/linux > cpp: output pipe has been closed ======================================================= Harware: P-III 800MHz (coppermine) 128MB pc-133MHz RAM GigaByte 6vx7-4x M/B Viper 770 w/32 MB Fujitsu 30GB HDD Ambrosius - -- ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ???????????????????????????????
