You have problems, at least until ldconfig has run. And with glibc you *do* have a problem because for a long time SuSE named binary library according to its soname. But because glibc since version 6 uses symbol versions the library version seldom changes. A compat package can't help you in this case. Believe me: doing major version updates in a live system is bound to get you into trouble and you'll most probably spend lots of time cleaning up afterwards.
