You can't use the RAID support of the Promise controllers, at least not yet. For the most part because it's really only software RAID done in the BIOS. If you want real hardware IDE RAID your only choice is one of the 3ware controllers, which come with 2, 4 or 8 ports (one drive per port). These controllers have their own processor to offer hardware RAID (levels 0,1,5 and 10) and are well supported under Linux. Check out http://www.3ware.com for further info.
