Hi, I'm running suse 8.2 on my toshiba notebook and I have trouble to compile a new kernel. I own a USB CD burner that I tried to use but it appears that the USB port crash when I tried to use it. So I tried to rebuild the kernel with the usbcore, usb-storage, and ide-scsi module support in the kernel. I install the package kernel-source-2.4.20.SuSE-62.i586.rpm then cp -f /boot/vmlinuz.config /usr/src/linux/.config cd /usr/src/linux make xconfig I loaded the .config file, then configured the kernel for a AMD-K6 processor and say yes to usb support, usb storage and scsi emulation support. I saved and I got the message: ERROR - Attempting to write value for unconfigured variable (CONFIG_FS_POSIX_ACL). then I run : make dep make bZimage make modules I got a error with the rio module but since I dont need the rio driver I deselected it in the .config file and run again make modules. This time everything is fine then I run : make modules_install at the end of make modules_install I got the message : ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- cd /lib/modules/2.4.20-4GB; \ mkdir -p pcmcia; \ find kernel -path '*/pcmcia/*' -name '*.o' | xargs -i -r ln -sf ../{} pcmcia if [ -r System.map ]; then /sbin/depmod -ae -F System.map 2.4.20-4GB; fi depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.20-4GB/kernel/fs/reiserfs/reiserfs.o depmod: reiserfs_permission_locked ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- then : cp -f arch/i386/boot/bzImage /boot/vmlinuz.custom mk_initrd -k /boot/vmlinuz.custom -i /boot/initrd.custom -t /temp I had the entry in the lilo file but when I reboot the notebook I still got the message : *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.20-4GB/kernel/fs/reiserfs/reiserfs.o reiserfs_permission_locked and the boot process stop at this point. Is somebody there know what I did wrong? Did I miss something during the compilation step? Best Regards, Christophe
