Suddenly, printing to my deskjet from KDE apps doesn't work. I am getting a catestrophic error pop up box that has the following error message.
Unable to start child print process. Check the command syntax: cupsdoprint -P 'hp_deskjet720c' -J 'temail_order.pl_[PaNxDb].pl' -H 'localhost:631' -U 'helphand' -o ' ColorMode=Grayscale PageSize=Letter copies=1 multiple-document-handling=separate-documents-collated-copies orientation-requested=3'
I managed to track down the problem to kprinter, however, I do not understand what caused it. A reboot of the system returned full printing capability. More data points for any others who encounter this problem; * googling turns up other instances on various distros, none I could find had an answer for what causes the problem. * I don't think the problem has anything to do with any particular printer model. I did not see a pattern in my googling. * the problem is something with kprinter, the 'cupsdoprint' command syntax is perfectly fine, and, in fact, the identical commandline can be used at the bash prompt to successfully print a file. * In complete frustration, I did a full reboot and it started working fine, what I do not know is whether restarting my KDE session would have accomplished the same, nor did I test printing from a different user's KDE session, which may have provided further clues. Hope this info helps someone else if they get hit with this mysterious failure.
