Hi!! I'm having the following problem: I have an HP500 attached to the Linux Server and from Linux I can print, but I've been trying to configure samba to let the other win'98 machines to print to it but I can't figure out how?!?!?! I've read all the samba how to but it doesn't work. From the win'98 machines I can see the printer, but when I send a document to print it seems like it is OK but when I get to the printer thers nothing. I'm working with Suse 6.2 and Samba 2.0.5a. Anyone out there that can help? Thanks...
You will see a lot of printers from the windows side, one for each entry in printcap. The linux printers are usually "virtuel" printers (If you use apsfilter, the standard printing environment). In some cases, the color printer is used in b/w mode etc. What you need to look for is the "raw" printer. This printer receives the data *unchanged*. Due to the many funny autogenerated names in printcap, look for the raw one like.: # raw|lp3|laserjet-a4-raw|laserjet a4 raw:\ :lp=/dev/lp0:\ memorize the alias name and print to that using the windows hp500 driver. The b variant is to select *any* postscript driver on win and print to the "auto" printer, this gives you a postscript (emulation) printer.
