KDE Printer duplex weirdness

Hi I posted this yesterday on the KDE mailing list, but received no opinions. So I'll try to repost here: I have a weird problem in KDE's printing dialog: My printer is shared via a printserver on a OpenSUSE running as NAS/server/host whatever, using CUPS and Avahi. After configuring cups and avahi on the client machine it picks up any printer announcement and makes the printer available locally. I have verified that Avahi announces the printer capabilities as Duplex True. klaus@msien:~> avahi-browse -c _ipp._tcp --resolve | grep -i duplex txt = ["printer-type=0x901E" "Duplex=T" "Color=T" ... Firefox and LibreOffice picks up this, and I can select Duplex Long or Short edge as expected. But trying to print from Konqueror or Okular any duplex option is grayed out and selection is stuck on Off. However: If I open the Firefox printing dialog, select Long edge and press Cancel, then immediately enter the print dialog in Okular (or Konqueror), I can now select Long or Short edge print (and it the printer does duplex as requested) I am runnning KDE Frameworks Version 5.105.0, Qt Version 5.15.9 (built against 5.15.9), cups-2.4.2 on OpenSUSE Tumbleweed. Any opinion if this bug is in OpenSUSE, KDE, or maybee CUPS? -- Thanks Klaus

Run multiple X sessions on the same machine?

I could *swear* I'd seen this was possible, but.... Already running lightdm->fvwm on vt7 (my usual setup). I would like to experiment with another windowmananger without having to drop my normal setup. I *thought* it was something like 1. Get into another vt, log in. 2. `startx -- :1` However when I tried that it trashed the X session on vt7. Or do I need to reformulate this as "run multiple displaymanager on multiple VTs"? [oS-en] Thunderbird: calendar doesn't sync well with gmail

I have to restart Thunderbird to make the events fully appear in the phone. The edit I do in Thunderbird is usually find an old event, select it, copy, go to "today", hit paste, then modify it. After save, check the event in the phone. Well, I changed the tittle, the modified tittle did not appear. And a second event with the same name on another date did not appear at all. Is this known? pidof ?

On my leap155 box, I don't have any 'pidof'. It seems to be part of sysvinit-tools. Looking at the contents of that, at least pidof and usleep seem to be quite useful - I wonder if they ought to be moved to some other package. Rosegarden segfaults in Leap-15.4

Leap-15.4 Regardless of whether I start qjackctl before or not, launching rosegarden fails with this ~ # rosegarden Cannot lock down 86611866 byte memory area (Cannot allocate memory) Cannot use real-time scheduling (RR/5)(1: Operation not permitted) JackClient::AcquireSelfRealTime error Segmentation fault (core dumped) This kind of error shows up REGULARLY in suse (mostly in Leaps) i.e. it gets fixed and then it's only a matter of time before it start again, been watching the yoyo for years.

Logging in, well promising looks like a normal desktop, not the disaster I would have expected. Trying out Chinese character, wow, hope rises, the program fcitx5 does a lot of progress and is now usable. I want to change the system layout by downloading a new stile, a new icon ecc. Fail unfortunately, the system settings crashes reliably. No possibility to download anything and segfault. Bug reported. Well, now change in style, let us watch sat-TV with kaffeine. But I get a detached VLC window and crashes with segfault after 10 seconds. Bug reported. Shifting now back to X-server. A long way to go still. But visible progress. Good. Will try again in a few months.

Game no longer starts after dup to TW 20230512

Hi list, after the last update of my Tumbleweed laptop to 20230512 one of my games no longer wants to start. The affected game is "Hexcells Infinite", a Mono game. After it didn't start via the application menu I started it manually from an xterm. KDE keyboard layout not starting on login

Hello, I have a strange issue that appears in two systems. One Tumbleweed and one 15.4. I use en and gr keyboard layouts configured from the KDE settings. Although the setting is valid and as soon as I apply it the keyboard layout indicator appears in the system tray, after reboot it disappears and I have to go and re-apply the settings (it is not deleted just not "executed") to make it visible and working again. I usually use keep last session on KDE but I also tried to start with a clean session or with a manual saved session. Nothing seems to affect the keyboard layout indicator, it is always disappearing after reboot. Both systems were working as expected before. The only difference is that the issue on 15.4 appeared just after dist-upgrading from 15.3. Any ideas on how to debug it? Regards Stratos

openSUSE 15.4 boots to a blank screen

Hello, I Installed a new video card (same model is running on another computer using openSUSE Leap 15.4 with same proprietary drivers just fine). Since then the computer boots to a blank screen. Using legacy grub2 to boot (menu displayed fine, first lines of initrd are displayed, then screen goes blank). Tried booting using nomodesset, uninstalled plymouth, rebuilt initrd, reinstalled bootloader no changes. I can start the X-Server via SSH, then screens work. I can also switch to other ttys then, showing the console. Probably a serial console would work also. ;-) video card is a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti nvidia drivers (nvidia-video-G06-525.116.04-lp154.8.1.x86_64) load fine, dmesg (last thing I did was start the X server) can be found here: https://www.swabian.net/extern/opensuse/dmesg_blankscreen.txt current cmdline: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-5.14.21-150400.24.63-default root=UUID=406791e3-4103-4da5-8235-aa35ed5be74c nosplash resume=/dev/disk/by-id/scsi-36c81f660cfd00400232bc7c603abcd39-part4 splash=nosplash debug showopts elevator=cfq mitigations=auto nomodeset what do I miss? only significant difference to other pc (despite of other hardware (but identical video card)) is, that that one uses efi not legacy boot. systemd log spamming

Just an observation, not a criticism. a single cronjob creates 44 lines of log messages: https://paste.opensuse.org/pastes/fe6b3afe257a Only four of those are from cron :-) I don't mind much, it's only log space and once compressed, it's virtually gone. Still, I guess I could look for an option to make systemd less verbose.
