Wifi provision

I have a Fritz!Box 7530, supplied by my ISP, and until now I have used its wifi provision to meet my needs. But a recent OS update means it now doesn't so I'm looking at alternatives. I'm fairly ignorant about wifi so I'd welcome suggestions. I'm somewhat paranoid about being attacked from the wider Internet, and in particular about attacks on wifi IOT devices (i.e. their firmware) which then lead to further attacks on the rest of my systems from the IOT devices. So I like to do two things: (1) keep my wifi devices on a separate subnet than my main wired network (2) prevent my wifi devices from accessing the Internet, where possible The 7530 assists with goal (1) by having a guest wifi network that uses a different subnet from the main wired network and 'main' wifi network. So I put all my wifi devices on the guest network and don't use the 'main' wifi network. Until recently the 7530 also assisted with goal (2) by allowing me to assign different 'profiles' to different devices on the guest wifi network. So my mobile phones do have permission to access the Internet, but most other devices (smart plugs, cameras etc) do not. But a recent OS update removed this ability. Now all devices on the guest network have to use the same profile. (it seems that existing devices keep the profiles they had, but new ones all get the same). I've talked to AVM but they won't fix the regression and I've talked to my ISP who say there's nothing they can do. So now I'm considering possibilities. The favourite at the moment is to buy another device (router? AP? I don't know what its called) that Ican wire into my main network and can establish a new wifi network that I can control better, and move all my devices to that. But I don't know what devices will allow me to do that, or which is best? Help! Please.

As of title, I am getting confused because I found qt6 installed but the info says system is QT5.15.8. So unsure what I am actually using. I have to know it because I have an issue with a QT based plugin (yapstocks)

Actually, it's a bit different. First off, the link local address is used for routing. This address starts with fe80 and every IPv6 capable device has one. Second, while my router has a single IPv6 address, it's prefix is a /128. This means it can't communicate directly with anything. All traffic for that address has to be routed via the link local address. In fact, you don't even need a global address on the WAN port. If you had to reach it from elsewhere, you could use any other global address in it, such as the LAN address. It makes no difference, as any address on the router has to be reached over the link local address.

OT? Video resolution

I know this isn't opensuse but maybe someone here has some insight as to how I should proceed: I have an older I5 based box that I put Netrunner linux on. It has a VGA port which is bridged to an HDMI adapter to the HD TV. The video driver says it is i915, mesa is installed, etc but it seems the best I can get is 1024x768. I do not remember what max res was when Win-whatever was installed but it is a Dell Optiplex 3020 which says it "Intel® HD Graphics 4600 (with select CPUs)" and I do see the 4600 as I poke around in the system. On Dell's website it says that this was released in 2013 and it says 1280x720 and 1366x768, which would be better than what I am getting. I went to Intel's site but didn't see anything that jumped out at me about how to get a higher resolution than what I am seeing. Is it even possible with this configuration? Do I need to install different drivers? It looks like I may have the latest... Anyway, any insight you can offer would be appreciated. Thanks, Fred

systemctl edit for own unit files in /usr/local/lib/systemd/system

Hi *, I keep my own systemd unit files in /usr/local/lib/systemd/system. Enabling them creates a link from the unit file in this directory to for example multiuser.target.wants. But editing them with systemctl edit --full and writing back the edited file creates a new file with the modified contents in /etc/system/system and leaves my file in /usr/local/lib/systemd/system untouched. So I have two files with different contents from now on, which is at least confusing. Is that really the intended behaviour of systemctl edit? Or am I doing something wrong? TIA. Bye. Michael.

Only 1920x1080 resolution for laptop in x11-server in leap 15.4

Hi, I have two new laptops. Both are ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 7[1]. Mine runs Tumbleweed and it works. I thought for my peace of mind I would install Leap 15.4 on my wife's laptop. I got everything working except there is only one setting for the resolution. This laptop has 1920x1200 but I can only get 1920x1080 on Leap 15.4. I haven't touched Leap in about 5 years. Is there anything special about Leap and resolution? I have tried to install the xorg server from X11:XOrg but no cigar. I rolled back to the original x server.
