[opensuse] Project management software question for project managers

I am looking for project management software I can install on my Suse box. Alas, there are quite a number of prducts that claim to be suitable project management products, but I am hoping to obtain a little help separating the wheat from the chaffe. Basically, when I open the project management software, I want to be able to choose from among a number of projects that are under way, and then see the relation between a client's wish list and the functional requirements specs, and then how these specs relate to the UML diagrams that have been created, and from there, what tasks have been defined for each requirement and the identity of all persons involved, the developers and their managers, and the person who designed the code that supports the requirement. And with that, I want to be able to see the project's timeline, the related bugs, &c. I would even want to be able to open the source code files and examine the code that was actually written. Here is my wish list: 1) a web application that stores data in either PostgreSQL or MySQL. 2) easy integration with UML tool (or has it's own UML tool that supports round trip engineering) 3) resource management (e.g. computers, and development tools, that can be used, personelle assigned to each task) 4) documentation of relation between functional requirements specs to specific tasks and specific unit and integration tests. 5) time/effort tracking 6) bug tracking, including data relating the existance of the bug, and effort required to fix it, to the person who wrote the original code, the person who supervised him or her, and the person who designed the 'feature' in question, the time taken to complete the original task, and the technologies used (to imprrove accountability as well as to determine retraining and continuing education needs (people aren't disposable, so instead of taking a harsh aproach to problems identified, I prefer to use education as a corrective, but I can't design corrective instruction without knowing precisely what the need is). I also need to know if a developer has a higher than normal bug rate simply because he doesn't take enough time to ensure the job is done right, or because I haven't adequately trained him, or because of a poor choice of tools, or somethng else that may be my fault. 7) use of task effort tracking history to generate provisional effort/cost estimates from new project's functional requirements 8) easy integration with open source ERP products like OFBiz (which may make trakcing resources and manpower easier, as well as connect real production data to the enterprise's accounting systems) 9) easy integration with CMS products, like Wordpress (especally for production documentation, includng degin documentation and user guides and reference manuals) 10) easy integration with verion control systems such as subversion. If there is a decent product that supports all of this, great (and language used to implement it doesn't matter), but if I have to write code to add missing requirements, then I am limited to those implemented using Perl or Java (and running on Tomcat). I don't know PHP well enough, and I don't know Ruby at all; and I really don't want to think about implementing this sort of thing in C++ (though I could if absolutely necessary). If you have project management experience, and use tools that are available for Suse Linux, what software product(s) did you use, and with what result? While I await relies, I will continue to review web documentation for those products I have found so far, to see if any of them are a) suitable for use in production and b) to see to what extent they support the features I am after. I have seen a number of products so far in my search, that deserve to be nameless, because they provide no way to relate cost estimates to one's team's track record, or to the details of the design, and seem satisfied with production of a pretty gantt chart (which is why I have formed the view that there is a whole lots of chaffe in the set of applications that call themselves project menement software - I have yet to find anything that really has the potential of being labelled wheat). [SLE] RealPlayer G2 on SuSe 6.2

Yesterday, I finally got sound going on my Linux setup. I downloaded RealPlayer G2 and it worked beautifully. Today, RealPlayer run but no sound coming out. All other sound functions still work. I can still play my CD, have system sound BUT no sound when I run RealPlayer. /var/log/message said kernel: Sound: DMA (output) timed out - IRQ/DRQ config error? but KDE sound still work. I have re-installed RealPlayer 3 times now, still no sound when I run the RealPlayer. Any help is appreciated. OS install on USB-C disk on a laptop

Hello!, I have a work machine I cannot reinstall (comes with Windows), Latitude 5420. Given it has only one M2 slot, I'm exploring using a Sabrent nano USB-C external disk to run opensuse from it, but I'm wondering if it will work properly in a laptop scenario (suspend/resume). SuSE Tumbleweed with newest updates and upgrades. 5.7.1-1-default #1 SMP Wed Jun 10 11:53:46 UTC 2020 (6a549f6) x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux Just recently started to give error messages when plugging in e.g. USB Headsets, Arduino Uno into some Exsys USB 3.0 hub. This was working fine in Tumbleweed before and in e.g. SuSE 13.1. yast / zypper repo not visible

Here on tumbleweed, not completely updated 20220122: i tried in yast chang a url, the repo is deleted, (not listed any more) so i decide to cancle, and delete the repo in yast. then i added a new repo with zypper: zypper ar -c -n 'Arcad Systemhaus' http://packages.arcad.de/maintenance/accesscode/rpms/5.11/main/RPMS Arcad now its listed in yast "software-repositorys" but NOT in the yast "install software" / show -repositorys and yes, its active zypper lr -p 1 | Arcad | Arcad Systemhaus | Ja | ( p) Ja | Ja | 99 what i see is that in yast "software-repos" the type of the repo is shown as "none" not as "yum" as all others. whats wrong, here, some corrupted database (how to fix) or is this some bug? simoN -- www.becherer.de

Searchable database on the web?

Hi, This is probably an idiotic question but is there a searchable database of all OpenSUSE Tumbleweed packages available on the web at all? I'm used to Ubuntu, where I can go to https://packages.ubuntu.com/ and search the package list. I know I can do that using YaST, but sometimes I find it more convenient to do it using a web browser. Strange problems with browsers and thunderbird

I installed SuSE Tumbleweed 20220202 snap since I read about some problems with SuSE Leap 15.3 . Installation failed to adress the online repositories but installed anyway. Afterwards I tried the installed firefox which constantly fails for certain webpages like www.suse.com www.nvidia.de github.com Funnily enough other sites like www.fosshub.com are working ok, there is no network problem since Windows 10 on the same machine and a laptop with Ubuntu 18.04 LTS on the same network are doing just fine. Thunderbird refuses connections to email servers which are working fine on my Ubuntu Laptop. Then I tried chromium from the repos: same problem. Opera from the repos: same problem. I also tried the Mozilla version from here: https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/97.0.1/ and the Mozilla version of thunderbird from here: https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/91.6.1/ Still the same problem. Started firefox with a complete new ~/.mozilla : no change. What is wrong with Tumbleweed nowadays? Do I have to say goodbye to OpenSuSE after more than 20 years? :-( BR

running an ARM domu under xen?

I'll just throw it out here, you never whom I might hit - for compiling/building stuff for small ARM boards, I have a dedicated machine with a qemu-arm "system" set up, to run on an openSUSE jeos ARM image. This works really well, but it's a little cumbersome. I got wondering if it might be possible to run a virtual ARM guest too, on xen? -- Per Jessen, Zürich (3.1°C)

Blacklist pipewire from zypper dup (TW)

Hi, As the subject says, I'd like to blacklist pipewire from dup updates in tumbleweed. Do not misunderstand me. I like pipewire and look forward to it becoming standard, when it's ready for prime time. Unfortunately, this is not the case at the moment and I rely on professionally audio with jackd etc. Anyway. What's the correct way to blacklist pipewire from zypper dup, and is it even possible without destroying the setup? PS. This might be more appropriate on the factory list but I start here. Packman and TW

Hi, I've got a fairly new install of OpenSUSE Tumbleweed but I'm getting stuck when trying to run sudo zypper dup as Packman hasn't caught up with the main repositories. I've had this problem before but normally the Packman repository updates fairly quickly so that it is back in sync with the main repositories. Has there been any news on this issue? Thanks. Simon.

Tiny fonts in Zoiper phone since 1 week

Hello, I have the problem, that my Zoiper VOIP phone application is shown with tiny fonts since around one week. I remember only two configuration changes before this happened: * Latest Tumbleweed snapshot update * I updated the /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ directory with the current font files from Windows 10 and started "sudo fonts-config" afterwards. I did not updated Zoiper (already latest version 5.5.9). I use Xorg with KDE Plasma and the Nvidia driver 470.103.01 from the Nvidia repository. Only this single application is affected. All other applications are still good. My guess is, that the Zoiper application detects incorrect DPI or font size settings since latest Tumbleweed update. In the past Zoiper already had bugs with fontconfig. Any ideas? Is it possible to display the fontconfig default fonts? Latest TW 20220212 fails to boot after dup - maybe an nvidia issue

Just a heads up to anyone using nvidia considering dup'ing to 20220212 with kernel 5.16.8-1-default. After upgrading I cannot boot, not even to run level 3. It may be because I'm using the nvidia proprietary driver. I've not seen it fail to boot to runlevel 3 before, so that's a surprise. The host is not reachable via ssh and it's NFS-exports are not available. I'm seeing the following errors in the journal (after booting back to 5.16.5-1-default). I'm reading the subject lines in the top panel (I don't know its name). It shows the from, to, subject, date... I go up and down using the wheel on the mouse. I locate an email I want to read, so in the bottom panel I have the email. I want to browse it, so I poise the mouse over the panel and move the wheel... nothing happens. I have to click on the panel first, then move the wheel, then the mail read panel goes up or down the email. This did not happen before, the window would follow the wheel as soon as I move the wheel. On other programs it works, it is just Thunderbird that has changed behaviour. I thought I would get used to the change, so I have waited two weeks, but no, it is still a nuisance. Originally installed a test 15.3 system as a simple server, no graphics environment. It's been maybe a decade since I had to install and configure an X system from scratch. Added X11 via Yast. Accepted the required additions. systemctl start xdm.service fails. Due to "dependencies". Did find a few services it needed that were not installed by YAST. Still failed to start. Eventually I found it was failing due to "not configured". Suse docs seem to say it does "not normally need to be configured" and should just work. I've so far found no configuration utilities to assist. At least none seem to be installed. Any assistance is appreciated. joe a.

problem printing some documents

Hello: This occurs in openSUSE Leap 15.3 with its default cups installation. The printer is an Epson AL-M300II connected with USB cable. There are some documents I cannot print, eg invoices. Other regular pdf files print OK. When opening a problematic document with Okular, it says: "This document has embedded files. Click here to see them or go to File -> Embedded Files. This document has forms. Click on the button to interact with them, or use View -> Show Forms. This document is digitally signed." When I print the document, the printer's green led is blinking, but nothing is printed. Stellarium os flickering

Hi all, I 've been using Stellarium as a planetarium software and also for demonstration purposes. For some time, it is blinking, flickering etc, cannot be enjoyed at all. This is an elder ASUS laptop with TW and KDE (and XFCE). Is there somebody out there who also uses Stellarium and observed this unwanted flickering. Any idea is welcome. Thanks, Albert

In recent weeks/months I've noticed that if I enter the Yast "Boot Loader Settings" "Bootloader-Options" tab, there is a long pause because yast immediately refreshes/downloads all the zypper repo data. Why does changing the boot loader options require a repo refresh? And while I'm on the subject of repos, I'm sometimes asked whether I want to accept new keys (like just five minutes ago). I always answer yes, but is there an easy way to tell what answer I should give? Or perhaps a way to get zypper to authoritatively check or re-check keys? Thanks. Michael

Samba updates crashes smbd

I am running OpenSuSE 15.3, x64 I am a bit confused, I noticed on Mon Feb 1, that I received a number of updates, many of which involved samba bringing it to version 4.15.4-git.324.8332acf1a63150300.3.25.3-SUSE-oS15.0-x86_64. Today (Feb 5) I noticed that autofs on other systems was failing and I traced the problem back to samba which was failing to export shares because smbd had crashed. The smb.log file showed this error - [2022/02/05 18:45:01.852699, 0] ../../source3/smbd/server.c:1734(main) smbd version 4.15.4-git.324.8332acf1a63150300.3.25.3-SUSE-oS15.0-x86_64 started. Copyright Andrew Tridgell and the Samba Team 1992-2021 [2022/02/05 18:45:01.867593, 0] ../../lib/util/become_daemon.c:120(exit_daemon) exit_daemon: daemon failed to start: Samba failed to init printing subsystem, error code 13 Googling this error message lead me to this bug report - https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1191532 which seems to be all about fixing this error. The bug is marked resolved/fixed and the last entries (on Mon Feb 1) are about releasing the fix. So I assume that the release of this fix corresponds to the updates I got on that same day. Yet this is when this particular bug started showing up on my systems! I have dropped back to version 4.13.13-git.539.fdbc44a85983.20.2-SUSE-oS15.0-x86_64of samba and all is well again, both autofs and my printers are working again. So what gives? Did this update fix, or not fix this bug? I admit I do not grok about 95% of the bug report (didn't take the time to do so) but it seems pretty coincidental that the bug was was marked as resolved and then released on the very day I got updates that broke my smbd daemons. Please don't be harsh on me, I am simply trying to understand what is going on and would appreciate any suggestions/advise on what to do about updating Samba. I did not know before which was the culprit. So suspicions were a kernel update just before this happened, or broken hardware at the computer USB port because I had accidentally powered off the UPS while the computer was active. But then, being less dramatic, just the UPS chipset hanging. So I halted the computer, powered off the UPS at is buttton, then powered off the mains before the UPS. The problem I initially detected was that telling the machine to hibernate sometimes appeared to stall, and I had to force a power off (via physical power switch) to recover. In fact, I found out later, the kernel was simply syncing one partition, and this operation would take half an hour, which it is absurd. Later I found out that it was only one partition affected, and this partition was (is) reiserfs. Then I guessed that the slow operation was syncing the metadata (the time stamps) of the news (nntp) spool. Traditionally a news server touches (and use) the access timestamp each time a post is read, affecting one file per read. With the default mount options used nowdays this modification stays in RAM for long, many hours. So, the cronjob that scans the news spool now also calls sync on that filesystem, and when hibernating I call sync in advance. This improved things, but not completely. Thus I finally resorted to moving the news spool only to another reiserfs partition created on an SSD disk, which usually syncs in seconds, instead of half an hour. So I thought, problem solved. But later on I noticed that the sync operation prior to hibernating on the old reiserfs partition still takes long, but only on some days - even if nothing writes there now. This is astonishing.
