[opensuse] Project management software question for project managers

I am looking for project management software I can install on my Suse box. Alas, there are quite a number of prducts that claim to be suitable project management products, but I am hoping to obtain a little help separating the wheat from the chaffe. Basically, when I open the project management software, I want to be able to choose from among a number of projects that are under way, and then see the relation between a client's wish list and the functional requirements specs, and then how these specs relate to the UML diagrams that have been created, and from there, what tasks have been defined for each requirement and the identity of all persons involved, the developers and their managers, and the person who designed the code that supports the requirement. And with that, I want to be able to see the project's timeline, the related bugs, &c. I would even want to be able to open the source code files and examine the code that was actually written. Here is my wish list: 1) a web application that stores data in either PostgreSQL or MySQL. 2) easy integration with UML tool (or has it's own UML tool that supports round trip engineering) 3) resource management (e.g. computers, and development tools, that can be used, personelle assigned to each task) 4) documentation of relation between functional requirements specs to specific tasks and specific unit and integration tests. 5) time/effort tracking 6) bug tracking, including data relating the existance of the bug, and effort required to fix it, to the person who wrote the original code, the person who supervised him or her, and the person who designed the 'feature' in question, the time taken to complete the original task, and the technologies used (to imprrove accountability as well as to determine retraining and continuing education needs (people aren't disposable, so instead of taking a harsh aproach to problems identified, I prefer to use education as a corrective, but I can't design corrective instruction without knowing precisely what the need is). I also need to know if a developer has a higher than normal bug rate simply because he doesn't take enough time to ensure the job is done right, or because I haven't adequately trained him, or because of a poor choice of tools, or somethng else that may be my fault. 7) use of task effort tracking history to generate provisional effort/cost estimates from new project's functional requirements 8) easy integration with open source ERP products like OFBiz (which may make trakcing resources and manpower easier, as well as connect real production data to the enterprise's accounting systems) 9) easy integration with CMS products, like Wordpress (especally for production documentation, includng degin documentation and user guides and reference manuals) 10) easy integration with verion control systems such as subversion. If there is a decent product that supports all of this, great (and language used to implement it doesn't matter), but if I have to write code to add missing requirements, then I am limited to those implemented using Perl or Java (and running on Tomcat). I don't know PHP well enough, and I don't know Ruby at all; and I really don't want to think about implementing this sort of thing in C++ (though I could if absolutely necessary). If you have project management experience, and use tools that are available for Suse Linux, what software product(s) did you use, and with what result? While I await relies, I will continue to review web documentation for those products I have found so far, to see if any of them are a) suitable for use in production and b) to see to what extent they support the features I am after. I have seen a number of products so far in my search, that deserve to be nameless, because they provide no way to relate cost estimates to one's team's track record, or to the details of the design, and seem satisfied with production of a pretty gantt chart (which is why I have formed the view that there is a whole lots of chaffe in the set of applications that call themselves project menement software - I have yet to find anything that really has the potential of being labelled wheat). [SLE] RealPlayer G2 on SuSe 6.2

Yesterday, I finally got sound going on my Linux setup. I downloaded RealPlayer G2 and it worked beautifully. Today, RealPlayer run but no sound coming out. All other sound functions still work. I can still play my CD, have system sound BUT no sound when I run RealPlayer. /var/log/message said kernel: Sound: DMA (output) timed out - IRQ/DRQ config error? but KDE sound still work. I have re-installed RealPlayer 3 times now, still no sound when I run the RealPlayer. Any help is appreciated. Creating a new user for a deamon

[opensuse] Memtest & UEFI

SuSE Tumbleweed with newest updates and upgrades. 5.7.1-1-default #1 SMP Wed Jun 10 11:53:46 UTC 2020 (6a549f6) x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux Just recently started to give error messages when plugging in e.g. USB Headsets, Arduino Uno into some Exsys USB 3.0 hub. This was working fine in Tumbleweed before and in e.g. SuSE 13.1. The error message is e.g.: [...]usb 2-1.4.3: new full-speed USB device number 10 using xhci_hcd [...]usb 2-1.4.3: New USB device found, idVendor=2341, idProduct=0043, bcdDevice= 0.01 [...]usb 2-1.4.3: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=220 [...]usb 2-1.4.3: Manufacturer: Arduino (www.arduino.cc) ...serialnumber... [...]kernel: usb 2-1.4.3: Not enough bandwidth for new device state. [...]kernel: usb 2-1.4.3: can't set config #1, error -28 This error message started on Jun 04, after making an update (zypper up) on June 3rd. A USB3.0 stick is working on the Exsys Hub. The Arduino is working on some other USB 3.0 Port of another hub. Regression? Any hints how to get this away? [opensuse] Kernel compilation the openSUSE way?

I usually take the newest openSUSE kernel (from repository Kernel_stable). But since some month I have a DVB T2 HD card, which requires a patch (see https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=194171). So I need to compile kernels myself. I have a working compilation path. But the current path has 12 steps! It takes some time. I wonder, why it is so complicated to configure, compile and install a Kernel under openSUSE. Is there a better/easier/automated way to configure, compile and install a Kernel under openSUSE? I know this blog article. But the article uses Vanilla kernels and also needs 6 steps. With additional patches (4 steps), third-party modules (2 steps) and cleanup (1 step) the article would also need 13 steps: Compiling the Linux Kernel, the SUSE way https://www.suse.com/communities/blog/compiling-de-linux-kernel-suse-way/ This is my Kernel configuration, compilation and installation path: 1. Mount Windows NT(NTFS) drive as drive Z: for all users

Problem with software raid and Tumbleweed

Hello, I got Tumbleweed Snapshot20210115 and wanted to install it on a rather old machine with a software raid1 (UEFI raid). On this raid some Windows 10 is already existing. The installer of Tumbleweed Snapshot20210115 does not recognize this software raid1. It only shows single harddiscs and no raid volume. An older snapshot 20190704 is able to see that software raid1 but I cannot do any zypper dup with that one (this version was running previously before some hardware crash). Any help for that - either a snapshot which can handle software raid1 or some way to set zypper dup running again with the older snapshot? BR and thanks in advance Markus

Upgrade from Leap 15.1 to 15.2 Desktop Failure

Greetings, Just did an upgrade from my stable Leap 15.1 install to 15.2. I downloaded the DVD and did the upgrade from booting that. It asked me if I wanted to used the online repos as I have an internet connection so I said OK. Everything seemed to go well and booting into my KDE desktop. But clicking the gecko start menu gives an error. "Error loading QML file:file///sur/share/plasma/plasmoids/org.kde.plasma.kicker/contents/ui/main.qml:27:1: module "org.kde.plasma.private.kicker: is not installed" The system is running and I see my desktop widgets doing their thing. But I can't do anything. I can get to tty1 and login as root but I don't know what to do from there. I tried running yast in tty1 but get errors when I try software management. This system was first installed with Leap 15.0, upgraded to 15.1, now to a partially broken 15.2. Any suggestions most welcome. Jim F

Leap 15.2 sudden loss of ethernet

while using my ACER E5-575 I suddenly lost my ethernet port access. I had a friend check it and the connection works under a usb flash connected distro. But it no longer works in Leap even with delete and adding it back. I can and will do a reinstall Monday if I can not make this work. There should be a solution but I did not find anyone else online having it. I am having my friend test the wireless which I do have locally. What if any elegant solution short of complete reinstall will correct this? LVM inactive after upgrading from 15.1 to 15.2

Hello everyone, This is my first message to this list (I sometimes post in Factory list). Today I dist-upgraded my home server from 15.1 to 15.2. After reboot the server failed to boot due to an LVM volume not mounted (it is an extra volume, root is on standalone disk). From the maintenance console, I can enable the volume with lvchange -ay /dev/lvm0/storage and mount it correctly. I removed the mount point from /etc/fstab and the server was booted. Partition proposals in 15.2 installation

Yast is making some absurd proposals for the root partition installing Leap 15.2. Initially, it defaults to using all of an existing 732 GB partition, with /home on that partition as well. In a guided setup, with a /home partition, it proposes 256 GB, and doesn't allow me to shrink it. Snapshots don't grow that large. Why would this be so excessive? Thanks, Jon Cosby

Hello, I have some questions about opencl for tumbleweed. What and where is opencl-index?? Where can I get ocl-icd for tumbleweed ? The links I got from searching on the web were broken, I have the source package. It is for Folding@Home. I had to reinstall tumbleweed as the ssd was unreadable (my computer tends to crash to often-looking for the cure). Forums login does not work

Anybody knows what's going on? The login is correct as it works for bugzilla/buildservice/idp. Looks like forums lost connection to IDP. The only way to contact forums stuff suggested on help pages is "Contact us" link that allegedly is present on every page but it does not exist. It would be amusing id link were visible only to authenticated users ... :)

If you are using an older release that no longer gets updates (and have more than you using your box) -- rebuild from an srpm (the 15.1 package works fine for 15.0, just edit the .spec and update the version number (suggest checking the current version and adding +1 to the minor release no. so zypper remains happy) Then make sure you have rpmbuild installed and: rpmbuild -bb ~/rpmbuild/SPECS/sudo.spec (let it fail and just take note of the dependency packages you need to install -- install them) Then: rpmbuild -bb ~/rpmbuild/SPECS/sudo.spec (for real) Install the update. why is external disk written to crypttab?

Hi, when booting I have a message a start ob is running for de-disk-by\... It takes one and half a minute until it gives up. After googling I found that this is because of an entry in crypttab for an encrypted disk that is not available at boot time. Actually it is a external back-up disk that I only mount when needed and then remove again. So I removed that entry from crypttab and next boot was fine, but because of some magic the entry in crypttab appeares again and the boot delay also happens again, of course. That external disk isn't in fstab. I just plug it, wait for the notifier to see it, click to attach it, enter the passphrase. Later I remove it with that same notifier. Why is an entry written to crypttab? Can I avoid that somehow? Thanks for hints. kubernetes options on vanilla tumbleweed (btrfs)

Hi, I am looking for a simple kubernetes distribution which will run on vanilla tumbleweed with btrfs and will not require a VM. I intend to edit live container/pod code via vscode's docker integration. Seems like minikube does not like btrfs and would require a VM which I don't like on a dev laptop. In Windows and Mac scenarios I just run the kubernetes options of Docker Desktop. This is obviously nothing to expose to the internet or run live workloads, just an easy dev setup. Which option would you suggest? KDE woes

On an up-to-date Tumbleweed computer, my daughter now has trouble with things like the clock in the KDE status bar. She suspected that it was not updating properly so she turned on showing seconds. And she sees that it is very uneven about when time is updated. We have looked at the processes running and the memory and swap usage. I cannot see anything that would explain such delays. The clock update is useful when she is taking remote exams (at the University). Also, after the update, programs like zoom have become unstable. Zoom itself was not updated. But all else has been as part of the usual Tumbleweed updates. My own system (different laptop so not the same hardware) with basically the same versions of all software does not exhibit this behavior. I'm not sure where to start looking. X is whatever the default would be as the result of a Tumbleweed install. My daughter's install is a couple years old. It has been fine up to the update done in late December. All updates since then are also installed, but they have not helped. Any suggestions where to look? As I seldom have trouble, I confess that I'm a bit rusty at this type of thing. I googled the clock thing but I did not find much. Of course, it may not even be the clock part that is the real problem... -- Roger Oberholtzer

vim syntax highlighting

Hi, it seems that after my latest update of vim (on Leap 15.2) my syntax highlighting configuration is not working correctly anymore. I have something along the following lines in my .vimrc: let color = "true" if has("syntax") if color == "true" " This will switch colors ON " if we use xterm we use our own color definitions " in cause of background color if &term=="xterm" syntax on And xterm is still what I use here. My vimrc is VERY old and apparently something changed recently so it's not cooperating with the rest of the system configuration I assume? In the vim changelog I find: - stop owning /etc/vimrc so the old, distro provided config actually gets removed. Leaving it around leads to a duplicated autocmd for * .spec, leading to spec file template inserted twice. But I cannot really tell if that is relevant and where it broke for me. Any hints? Bluetooth headsets and Tumbleweed

Has anyone tried a headset like the Jabra Evolve 65 with Tumbleweed? I need a headset for things like Teams, and I am considering this Bluetooth headset. I generally do not use Bluetooth, so I'm not sure how well it is working with things like this. My laptop's built-in microphone is pretty crappy (very bad quality sound), so I am looking for an alternative. And there is the disturbance factor. My laptop does not have any standard USB ports, so I am trying not to get devices that need this. An adapter is ok. But if I can avoid it, that is a plus. -- Roger Oberholtzer

Hello: I prefer to look the mailing list messages on the website. Previously I used https://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse/ and that site was absolutely clear and easy to use. Now I am trying read messages at: https://lists.opensuse.org/archives/list/users@lists.opensuse.org/ But it only shows messages back until January 5. If I choose to see more threads (click All Threads) or select a month on the left, the message list extends, that is not only the title but some of the messages' bodies are shown. It is very difficult to read the titles only. OK, how can I get a condensed, titles only view, when I want to see more threads than those shown at the start page? Thanks, Istvan

Problem with unbound

I am running unbound. I have defined an AA-profile for it. From time to time unbound does not start. The reason I find in the logs: could not open autotrust-file for writing /var/lib/unbound/root.key.2112-0 permission denied. I tried to set AA on complain, but it does not encounter something to complain and to adapt. I recall I granted the right to that process in AA. Moreover, when I start the unbound by hand in "service" the process starts without any problem. And without giving error. So the issue seems only when it tries to update the autotrust-file. So, I do not understand why it needs to write to autotrust and I would like to know what permissions it should have, to compare with the ones I have: ls -l /var/lib/unbound/ entropia@roadrunner:~> ls -l /var/lib/unbound/ totale 4 -rw-r--r-- 1 unbound unbound 1251 20 gen 02.14 root.key Seems about right?? Or does the permission here need to be root:unbound? Thanks in advance. (Once it runs it is fast and reliable, but it is irritating that it fallbacks all the time due to this error.

I run openSuse Leap 15.2 with KDE plasma 15.18.6. When the built-in speaker is used by some program, the volume, which is very low, cannot be adjusted. When I click on the speaker icon in the panel, I see a pop-up window entitled "Audio Volume" with 2 tabs: - "Devices" with the message "No output or input devices found" and - "Applications" with the message "No applications play or recording audio". Why is the built-in speaker not recognized by KDE or Leap 15.2? How can I force the system to recognize the speaker? Thanks in advance and best regards, Wolfgang

All, I branched galculator to my buildservice and updated the spec to build with Gtk+2 instead of 3 because the calculator windows (hex, dec, bin, .....) appears 1/2 way up in the middle of the calculator window when built with Gtk+3. The build succeeds, but I can't find out where to download the package because it is in a weird quasi-part of my buildservice attached to: home:drankinatty:branches:openSUSE:Leap:15.2 instead of just being a normal one of my packages that show up in my ../home/drankinatty repo. I have built from the srpm on my local computer and confirmed that works perfectly, but want to test what buildservice created -- where is the rpm hiding? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

Hi, tumbleweed, is there a way to prevent qemu from updating virtualized hardware inside the virtualisation? as example: sometimes when qemu is updated, the virtial machines OS (windows 10 or windows xp) find new "hardware" and at least in windows xp i have now a huge amount of broken (most is invisible inside system-controll) hardware . and of course the "fingerprint" of the system will change. -> only solution i think about is to virtualize windows inside a virtualized tumbleweed which will then never be updated any more, running on an updated real hardware tumbleweed. so that the windows image will never be run by a new qemu version. anybody has a better solution? some command line options i could via virt-manager pass to qemu? like "stay ALWAYS on hardware qemu version 6.0 ????" simoN -- www.becherer.de

Trying out alternative desktop

I currently run KDE/Plasma as my desktop. My main 'always on' applications are Thunderbird and Firefox". Yes I run other apps, but those are the 'always on' and yes they take a great deal of memory/swap and at start-up are heavy on network bandwidth and on CPU. But when I run 'top' to what's going on, the other "100% cpu" entry is 'plasmashell'. Is KDE really that heavy a desktop? Can I make it lighter? Without reconfiguring, can I try out other desktops? Perhaps if I boot into what used to be called 'state 3' rather than 'state 5' then I can run 'startx' and somehow try another desktop ??? On leap 15.2, I am creating a cgroup: cd /sys/fs/cgroup/memory mkdir hpindexer echo 2147483648 >hpindexer/memory.limit_in_bytes echo 17493 >hpindexer/cgroup.procs At first it seems to work fine, but after a certain time, "hpindexer" just disappears ... It took me quite a while to discover the bits of the various Gnome desktop tools that were necessary to adjust font and icon sizes for Gnome-based applications. Now QT5-based applications (like keepassxc) are starting to creep into my Leap system, and I'm wondering what I parts I need in order to do the same with them? I _do not_ want to install the entirety of Plasma; I'm quite happy with my Trinity Desktop. Leslie

Some apps suddenly take a long time to start (OpenSUSE 15.2, XFCE4)

Hi, One of the recent patches to OpenSUSE 15.2 introduced a bug. The effect is that some apps suddenly take 5-10 seconds to start instead of showing up instantly as before. Afterwards, they work smoothly. Affected apps are: - keepassxc-2.6.2-lp152.3.9.1.x86_64 - virtualbox-qt-6.1.16-lp152.2.8.1.x86_64 The bug seems to be this one: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dbus/+bug/1852016 When using strace, I noticed that the programs hang polling Unix sockets like /tmp/.X11-unix/X0 or /run/user/1000/bus. I couldn't find a related bug in openSUSE. The workaround is to start the app from the command line using dbus-launch: dbus-launch keepassxc I noticed that the first time in the middle of December, certainly before the 26th. I've attached the entire update history. In the history, I see a new version of Qt 5, glib 2, nvidia-glG05 460.27, aaa_base 84.87. There are no updates to systemd or dbus itself. Support for HEIC files

I got some photos in HEIC format (which appears to be common in the Apple world) and ... nothing I had on my notebook could open them. GIMP seems to happily handle those. eog (GNOME image viewer) and magick (ImageMagick) - no luck. libheif1-1.10.0-11.1.x86_64 is installed on this Tumbleweed system. -> How do we get eog to process HEIC images? -> How do we get magick to process HEIC images? -> Corollary: is there some other tool that converts those to JPEG/PNG? In order to provide "umlauts" (ok, an European problem :-)) I need the package libidn- devel at compile time _and_ at runtime. I found the reason now - but I do not know how to circumvent this and whether or not this is my error or a more basic packaging error. pip and python packages without info

Hi, I am installing (as user) some software via pip3. I noticed that it also installs some of the requirements into my private folder where I *do* have the respective software installed system-wide. In this case, notably the opencv package for python: speedy:~% rpm -q python3-opencv python3-opencv-4.5.0-3.19.x86_64 but speedy:~% pip3 list|grep cv speedy:~% So pip doesn't see that it is installed, and therefore downloads and installs a private version. I noticed that most python packages come with some egg-info, either a file or a directory. The opencv package doesn't have that. Is this the reason pip does not see the package? And if so, would this be a packaging error that asks for a bug report? Any other recommendations how to handle this? Right now I do a 'pip uninstall opencv-python' to get rid of the additional one... I follow this loosely, but... Yesterday, Qt 5.15 we closed source for LTS. Qt6 is not ready (not to mention binary backward compatibility will be broken with 6.1). Hello fellow chameleons and happy new year everyone, I use openSUSE Leap 15.2 for gaming. And since the new Ubuntu release more and more titles fail to start because they require a newer GLIBC version than openSUSE provides (2.26). Is there a way to upgrade it somehow without breaking all the other applications? I would have considered openSUSE TW but I like the stable part of the system for work and stuff. Cheers, Bernd

Hello, I have an old Dell E521 (circa 2007) computer that I took out of storage. It has an nvidia geforce 8400 video card. I installed opensuse Leap 15.2 KDE, but the G03 driver isn't available for the stock 5.3 kernel. It's using the nouveau driver but that causes some weird screen blanking (even with XRenderer), random screen corruption and system freezes. I have used opensuse on it 10.0-11.3. Been so long I forget, but it has always been suse/opensuse. Is there a repo that I can use to downgrade the kernel to 4.3 (or any 4.x) that I can use with 15.2? I know it's a weird question, but I figure the machine is so old that it wouldn't benefit from any kernel after 4.x any way. Thanks. Alvin

grub boot from raid1 question

Hello: I would like to set up a Leap 15.1 system that boots from a md raid1 array. I have a sample configuration from a working debian system that boots from raid1 array. However there are 2 things in the sample configuration I don't understand. It seems that grub sets the root device using the array's uuid (mduuid). Than it searches for file-system id, and sets the root to that file system. Isn't it enough to set the root using only one of these methods? Either by mduuid or by fs-uuid? Is it necessary to use both? What occurs if the the fs-uuid of the mduuid device's file system is not equal to the one given in the search command? 2. insmod part_msdos command is given 2 times. I guess it would be OK to use only once. Is this correct? Thanks, Istvan
