[opensuse] Project management software question for project managers

I am looking for project management software I can install on my Suse box. Alas, there are quite a number of prducts that claim to be suitable project management products, but I am hoping to obtain a little help separating the wheat from the chaffe. Basically, when I open the project management software, I want to be able to choose from among a number of projects that are under way, and then see the relation between a client's wish list and the functional requirements specs, and then how these specs relate to the UML diagrams that have been created, and from there, what tasks have been defined for each requirement and the identity of all persons involved, the developers and their managers, and the person who designed the code that supports the requirement. And with that, I want to be able to see the project's timeline, the related bugs, &c. I would even want to be able to open the source code files and examine the code that was actually written. Here is my wish list: 1) a web application that stores data in either PostgreSQL or MySQL. 2) easy integration with UML tool (or has it's own UML tool that supports round trip engineering) 3) resource management (e.g. computers, and development tools, that can be used, personelle assigned to each task) 4) documentation of relation between functional requirements specs to specific tasks and specific unit and integration tests. 5) time/effort tracking 6) bug tracking, including data relating the existance of the bug, and effort required to fix it, to the person who wrote the original code, the person who supervised him or her, and the person who designed the 'feature' in question, the time taken to complete the original task, and the technologies used (to imprrove accountability as well as to determine retraining and continuing education needs (people aren't disposable, so instead of taking a harsh aproach to problems identified, I prefer to use education as a corrective, but I can't design corrective instruction without knowing precisely what the need is). I also need to know if a developer has a higher than normal bug rate simply because he doesn't take enough time to ensure the job is done right, or because I haven't adequately trained him, or because of a poor choice of tools, or somethng else that may be my fault. 7) use of task effort tracking history to generate provisional effort/cost estimates from new project's functional requirements 8) easy integration with open source ERP products like OFBiz (which may make trakcing resources and manpower easier, as well as connect real production data to the enterprise's accounting systems) 9) easy integration with CMS products, like Wordpress (especally for production documentation, includng degin documentation and user guides and reference manuals) 10) easy integration with verion control systems such as subversion. If there is a decent product that supports all of this, great (and language used to implement it doesn't matter), but if I have to write code to add missing requirements, then I am limited to those implemented using Perl or Java (and running on Tomcat). I don't know PHP well enough, and I don't know Ruby at all; and I really don't want to think about implementing this sort of thing in C++ (though I could if absolutely necessary). If you have project management experience, and use tools that are available for Suse Linux, what software product(s) did you use, and with what result? While I await relies, I will continue to review web documentation for those products I have found so far, to see if any of them are a) suitable for use in production and b) to see to what extent they support the features I am after. I have seen a number of products so far in my search, that deserve to be nameless, because they provide no way to relate cost estimates to one's team's track record, or to the details of the design, and seem satisfied with production of a pretty gantt chart (which is why I have formed the view that there is a whole lots of chaffe in the set of applications that call themselves project menement software - I have yet to find anything that really has the potential of being labelled wheat). [SLE] RealPlayer G2 on SuSe 6.2

Yesterday, I finally got sound going on my Linux setup. I downloaded RealPlayer G2 and it worked beautifully. Today, RealPlayer run but no sound coming out. All other sound functions still work. I can still play my CD, have system sound BUT no sound when I run RealPlayer. /var/log/message said kernel: Sound: DMA (output) timed out - IRQ/DRQ config error? but KDE sound still work. I have re-installed RealPlayer 3 times now, still no sound when I run the RealPlayer. Any help is appreciated. Creating a new user for a deamon

SuSE Tumbleweed with newest updates and upgrades. 5.7.1-1-default #1 SMP Wed Jun 10 11:53:46 UTC 2020 (6a549f6) x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux Just recently started to give error messages when plugging in e.g. USB Headsets, Arduino Uno into some Exsys USB 3.0 hub. This was working fine in Tumbleweed before and in e.g. SuSE 13.1. The error message is e.g.: [...]usb 2-1.4.3: new full-speed USB device number 10 using xhci_hcd [...]usb 2-1.4.3: New USB device found, idVendor=2341, idProduct=0043, bcdDevice= 0.01 [...]usb 2-1.4.3: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=220 [...]usb 2-1.4.3: Manufacturer: Arduino (www.arduino.cc) ...serialnumber... [...]kernel: usb 2-1.4.3: Not enough bandwidth for new device state. [...]kernel: usb 2-1.4.3: can't set config #1, error -28 This error message started on Jun 04, after making an update (zypper up) on June 3rd. A USB3.0 stick is working on the Exsys Hub. The Arduino is working on some other USB 3.0 Port of another hub. Regression? Any hints how to get this away? [opensuse] Kernel compilation the openSUSE way?

I usually take the newest openSUSE kernel (from repository Kernel_stable). But since some month I have a DVB T2 HD card, which requires a patch (see https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=194171). So I need to compile kernels myself. I have a working compilation path. But the current path has 12 steps! It takes some time. I wonder, why it is so complicated to configure, compile and install a Kernel under openSUSE. Is there a better/easier/automated way to configure, compile and install a Kernel under openSUSE? I know this blog article. But the article uses Vanilla kernels and also needs 6 steps. With additional patches (4 steps), third-party modules (2 steps) and cleanup (1 step) the article would also need 13 steps: Compiling the Linux Kernel, the SUSE way https://www.suse.com/communities/blog/compiling-de-linux-kernel-suse-way/ This is my Kernel configuration, compilation and installation path: 1. Mount Windows NT(NTFS) drive as drive Z: for all users

[opensuse] Raid, Raid6, what file system for good fault tolerance?

Hi list, speaking about software raid, not hardware controller based. I am trying to go for some local OpenSuse machine and adding some storage to it. Was considering Raid6, and now reading about a bit and people left and right scaremongering about the larger the disks these days in the double digit terabyte capacities even, the more likely it is that during a reconstruction of a raid subsequent errors would occur. I would absolutely like to keep my data consistent, and I am not thinking about double digit terabytes either, would stick to 2TB or 4TB disks, with Raid6 thats at least 4 physical drives. Now I am wondering if it possible to use a good robust file system that can add some more parity or check blocks or redundancy on top of the hardware disks, to absolutely be able to always read my data. I can't add multiple machines or like those high availability stuff like clusters and what not I read about DRBD (Distributed Replicated Block Device), or maybe I am just too scared by those technical terms or consider myself to be just a simpleton and wanting to keep it rather simple. My use case here is also not constant availablity, when a disk needs to be replaced, so be it, but I don't want to lose my data that I can not ever read certain parts of it again or such stuff. The thing that came to my mind was, if there is some file systems that would add redundancy and robustness onto the mdraid system of the linux kernel? Anyone with some useful insights? Roughly speaking, I was considering some simple pcie esata interfaced controller card and an external case enclosure with esata port and portmulitplier stuff inside, that can present at least 4 physical disks as JBOD, just a bunch of disks, so that the Linux can seem them all separately. Speed and rebuild times are not my concern, but data persistence and data integrity. Not even number of physical disks, I could live with even one of those 8 bay device enclosures and cases that are out there on the market. [opensuse] If you upgrade Firefox 68esr to 78esr - urlbar works like windows but doesn't fill select-buffer, can't downgrade

All, A couple of notes if you are updating from Firefox 68esr to 78esr. (1) the urlbar will select the entire url on single-click (like windows), but the X "select-buffer" (that you can middle-mouse paste) is not filled. Further, mozilla removed: browser.urlbar.clickSelectsAll browser.urlbar.doubleClickSelectsAll So you cannot restore the normal Linux behavior. Links to bugs, discussions, etc.. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1285299 (the most frustrating part of this is you now have to try to triple-click which cancels the selection, then on double-click selects the *word* at the insertion point and then tries expand the selection to the paragraph -- as Gtk widgets go... which often fails depending on the triple-click timing) Note: this is still not a settled issue -- what to do about it is still under consideration, but falls under the category of -- if it wasn't broke to begin with -- don't fix it. The problem being that Linux doesn't select on single-click to prevent changing the select-buffer you have stored if you happen to click in the urlbar. The obvious non-Linux programmers though they would accommodate this by allowing the single-click without changing the select-buffer, but the result was to force an awkward triple-click if you do want to select the URL (which you do about 50% of the time) Progress... (2) your profile will be modified so you cannot downgrade back to 68esr. [opensuse] make libreoffice toolbar icon size smaller

Hello: My question applies to LibreOffice 6.2.7.1 in openSUSE Leap 15.1. I have set toolbar icon size to small in Tools -> Options -> View -> Toolbar Icon size. Still I find the icons too big, I would like to have even smaller icons. How can I? The icon style is the default Automatic (Tango). [opensuse] libreoffice, disable recent document list in start center

Hello: This applies to libreoffice 6.2.7.1 in openSUSE Leap 15.1. When I start libreoffice, a main window opens: start center (?). From the left side one can open files and start specific libreoffice programs (writer, calc, impress etc.). The right side shows the list of recent documents. I don't want recent documents list to be shown there. I don't want disable recent documents completely, they should still be listed in File/Recent Documents menu, I just don't want them to be listed in the program (start center) main window. I could find (by google search) how to disable recent documents completely (by changing picklistsize to 0) or disable thumbnails, but this is not what I want. I don't want even the names of recent documents listed there. Is it possible? How? [opensuse] 15.2: simple local bind resolver does not resolve anything any more?

Apparently there was some bind (named) update last night or yesterday. Today my internet and routing works fine on 15.2, but a locally installed named (bind) does not resolve anything any more. I actually use it only in a very simple way, no zones defined or anything, just a kind of cache or resolver that talks to the root nameservers and going down the tree of nameservers to look up dns entries. journalctl -u named.service constantly shows messages about no valid RRSIG ... no valid signature found. I can not nslookup anything using this bind on 127.0.0.1 I suppose this has something got to do with DNSSEC or such stuff? how come a simple security update or patch suddenly activates such a harsh feature midstream in 15.2? or are some root anchors or whatever such stuff missing from the opensuse leap 15.2 update/patch package missing or something? [opensuse] Automounting removable disks

A while back I posted a question about using /dev/disk/by-path to mount drives. I have udev rules to initiate a mount when a disk is inserted. My worry at the time was that the by-path values were not constant for a specific drive bay. I have since verified that these are constant and correct. Activity in a specific drive bay always has the same by-path value. I should be able to mount a disk in a specific drive bay at the same place. However, the drives are still not being mounted correctly. I am using udev. It seems that one must use systemd-mount when mounting drives in udev rules. So I am doing that. My udev rule runs a small script that lists where the by-path entry is pointing (e.g., sdm1) before the systemd-mount command runs. I can verify that the by-path entry is pointing to the correct sdX entry. However, the systemd-mount command mounts some other sdX, not the one it should - the one that is pointed to. It is also not the old value from a previous drive in that drive bay. It seems random. Or at least I have not seen a pattern. Sample udev rule (on one line in the rule file called 99-hydra-disk-array.rules): ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="block", ENV{ID_PATH}=="pci-0000:b3:00.0-sas-exp0x5003048020cc467f-phy5-lun-0", ENV{ID_PART_ENTRY_NUMBER}=="1", RUN+="/damount %E{ID_PATH}-part1 a 1" There are 24 rules, one for each drive bay, In this rule, the by-path is pci-0000:b3:00.0-sas-exp0x5003048020cc467f-phy5-lun-0, and I want partition 1. It should be mounted on /array/a1 Script it runs (/damount): #!/bin/sh DEV=$1 COL=$2 ROW=$3 DISK=$COL$ROW /usr/bin/mkdir -p /array/$DISK ls -l /dev/disk/by-path/$DEV >> /tmp/damount.log /usr/bin/systemd-mount --no-block /dev/disk/by-path/$DEV /array/$DISK # This does not work at all # mount /dev/disk/by-path/$DEV /array/$DISK I see in /tmp/damount.log that the by-path is pointing to a new sdx1 value. But it is some other sdx1 that is mounted. The commented mount command in the script is what one might think they could use. But in the udev rule, when it is used, nothing gets mounted. So we use systemd-mount This is on leap 15.1. I really do not know how to proceed. I can't see what I can do to make the mount command not mount what it is told to mount. The system journal shows the expected sdX value when the disk is inserted. But the mount is something else. I suspect some systemd issue. But where? Could there be some issue if one inserts multiple disks at the same time that confuses systemd-mount? The by-path and where it points is correct when multiple disks are inserted (as listed by the udev rule). So the confusion must be elsewhere. And all that's left is systemd-mount... I got an Aluratek AWC2KF. It says on the box that it supports Linux 2.6 so I figured it would work but tumbleweed does not see it when I plug into USB. The KDE System Information detects it when I plug it in and remove it but the USB icon does not activate and applications cannot detect it. There is an Ubuntu driver available that can be modified for other distros according to the documents. The guts seem to be Sunplus Innovation Technology (as reported by KDE System Information). Does anyone know if some camera in the list (for DigiKam or others) will work this camera? what is up with this now that I finally got a system capable of 64 bit and Leap. Last night three of the reposiitories were down. Thankfully not the ones I needed. Also no updates in the last few days. [opensuse] Internet and LibreOffice connections very slow

I was listening to a radio stream in Chromium yesterday and it started skipping. I switched to another station, and it took a long time to connect, but it played normally. All internet connections were slow after that. It took 10 seconds to connect to google.com. It takes a long time just to ping Google, like 13 seconds for 5 packets the first time. I assumed the issue was with my provider and did something else. I opened a text file I'd been editing earlier, and now it's taking 10 or 15 seconds to load. Same is happening for all texts and spreadsheets, unless I open them from recent documents in another file. Opening the files in Nautilus has this problem, too. Proxy is disabled in Firefox, Chromium and LibreOffice. All three are very slow to open and connect. I didn't do any updates or install software yesterday, or make system changes. It's strange, it was almost like it sputtered, and broke down.But how do I disable remote services in LibreOffice, and can somebody guess what would bring this on? [opensuse] Curious number in browser titles - Leap 15.2 KDE

I have noticed something curious in browsers. I often see a number in brackets, at the left end of the browser window title. For example, I currently have one window that says (1) Youtube. This is not the same as the duplicate window number, at the right end, but it does interfere with it. That number is not always there, but when it is present, the number may vary. It has been as high as 4. While I primarily see this with Firefox, I have also seen it with Seamonkey. I was poking around on eduroam.org to get a clue about how to get eduroam working on opensuse. One of their pages went to some documentation for gnome. I have been using kde, so I installed the gnome desktop, logged in to gnome and tried the same script as before and it worked this time. Once I went through the initial setup, it now works in kde as it just needed to set up some certs and such with network manager. But there is one caveat: not the current file it is transmitting. I was sending a backup with partition images from one machine to another, and I interrupted it. [opensuse] Can't get rid of additional address

I recently created an additional address for my NIC eth0, in Yast. While I was able to create it, I can't get rid of it. The delete button works until I leave and restart the LAN config in Yast. Here is what ifcfg-eth0 shows: BOOTPROTO='static' IPADDR='172.16.0.10/24' NETMASK='' NETWORK='' STARTMODE='auto' DHCLIENT_SET_DEFAULT_ROUTE='yes' IPADDR_1='10.0.0.1/0' LABEL_1='test' ZONE='home' MTU='0' As you can see, the test address 10.0.0.1/0 exists. Hi, here on OS 15.1 I often use dolphin to connect via sftp to my servers. It asks me for the password, and then it remembers it until I log out of my local KDE or reboot the local machine. There is no check-box "remember password" or similar in the password dialog, only the field to enter it. I would like to have it saved in KWallet, and this is installed and running, but empty... All, I look at 15.2 and I have this pipewire process at the top of top. I didn't start it, nor did I ask for it to be started. Wolfgang, all, Removing the unneeded pipewire from openSUSE 15.2 BREAKS Firefox, e.g. $ firefox XPCOMGlueLoad error for file /usr/lib64/firefox/libxul.so: libpipewire-0.3.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory Couldn't load XPCOM. Further, loading pipewire as a per-user systemd target is the wrong way to go. That effectively removes control of the process completely unless you want to decipher a 120-character XDG_ENVIRONMENT... command line to interface with the process. Starting pipewire through /etc/xdg/autostart/systemd with duplicate link through /etc/systemd/system/user is a bad idea. On 15.2 that autostarts the process when it isn't needed. The fact that removing the unwanted pipewire BREAKS firefox is ridiculous. pipewire is NOT a dependency of firefox in any way. Firefox should run on 15.2 regardless of whether pipewire is installed or not. This is nuts... -- David C.
